Success after IF

Update

hi ladies - thank you all very much for your posts last week and again I truly hope I did not offend anyone by saying how scared and stressed I was at the possibility of having another baby. Emotionally I was thrilled that my body actually worked, but the practical side of me was (and still is) thinking how things are going to go financially with us and also with my job. I know these are things that are all secondary, but let's be honest - having children is a expense and good god, we've seen in the past year how much 2 of them cost! ha.

anyway, in terms of an update, DH and I discussed and although this wasn't something we really wanted or planned for now, he reacted better than I expected to the news. he said "hey, it's not cancer. we can do this. it's going to be tough and stressful but we just need to stick it out." i went for an ultrasound yesterday at my OB's office. Since my day 1 of my period was November 7th, I thought I'd be about 6 weeks+ so they'd be able to see something. Well, the tech did see a gestational sac but it was small and had nothing inside. she actually estimated that I'm only about 5 weeks and ovulated very late into my normally 35-36 day cycle which is why it was a big accident (and possibly why i never got a positive OPK between days 16-21). So basically she said it's too early to tell if this is going to be a viable pregnancy or not. At the very end of the transvag u/s, she did say she saw a seconday yolk sac which is good? Does anyone know what that is or what it means? i tried googling but a lot of the info is very scientific and not really dumbed down for the regular patient. Anyway, any info would be appreciated. We have another appt in 2 weeks (due to the Xmas holiday being next week and the office is closed) to see if they can see the embryo, a heartbeat, etc.

  • I'm glad your husband reacted better than expected.  They do have a way of surprising you sometimes.  I hope your next ultrasound is wonderful.

Kelly, Mom to Christopher Shannon 9.27.06, Catherine Quinn 2.24.09, Trey Barton lost on 12.28.09, Therese Barton lost on 6.10.10, Joseph Sullivan 7.23.11, and our latest, Victoria Maren 11.15.12

Secondary infertility success with IVF, then two losses, one at 14 weeks and one at 10 weeks, then success with IUI and then just pure, crazy luck.  Expecting our fifth in May as the result of a FET.
