SCABIES? Any experience? pls help

My family got scabies two months ago. We treated twice but washed clothes in warm water not hot but we did dry on hot. Anybody ever do that?it's been a month and a half and my itch has slowly gone, but some bumps pop up here and there that aren't itchy. Is this normal? What was your experience and how did u do cleaning? Also when did you know you were cured? I'm hoping this is truly gone, I'm pregnant also.

  • I have, I basically have to wait it out. Im new here jus wanted to see if I could get any advice
  • The doctor prescribed us the medicine we needed and provided print outs on what we needed to do to clean our house/bedding. The most important part is being thorough and treating everyone who has close contact with each other (your family) at the same time. Please please please go to the doctor though. The medicine they commonly give is not safe during pregnancy and you may need an alternative treatment. Good luck! It took us about 10 months of them going away and coming back for it to be completely gone.

10 months?? That's a long time. How many treatments all together did you do? I've gone to the doctor and got the medicine. I hope it doesnt take that long. How did u know u weren't being cured? And how did u finally know when you were cured?
  • Also did you use the permetherin cream or the Stromoctal pills?
  • It was the permethrin cream. It's NOT safe during pregnancy from what I read. For us, we still don't know how but it kept coming back. We treated it and cleaned everything probably 4 times. Every time it came back it was the same symptoms and they just started all over again and progressively got worse. We knew it was gone for good when our skin healed up the bites didn't come back. I really hope you and your doctor can find a safe treatment to use during pregnancy. Scabies can get worse and worse and start to mess with your immune system, so hopefully you can get it taken care of soon. Hope that helps!

My doctor said it's the only treatment he prescribes for pregnant women and that it was safe? I did the sulfur treatment but it didn't do much. Did u do the cream neck down or scalp down?.. also when you began getting symptoms again was it one bump here and there? Or more? Did they itch

  • The itching can actually last long after the scabies bugs are dead themselves as the itching actually is part of your body's allergic response to the dead bug (gross I know). Is still call your dr but it is normal for this to take awhile to subside.
  • Have you had them before? I'm not itchy anymore but have a bump here and there pop up that scare me. My doctor said to wait it out and see if it spreads. Ota a waiting game sucks
  • I'm a nurse practitioner, I've had them and so have my family. In fact my mom had them when she was pregnant with me. Try not to obsess. If they come back you'll know. Improvement in sx is a great sign. Still it never hurts to talk to your dr. Good luck!
  • Was your mom treated with permetheri? My doctor said it was safe for pregnancy but others say it's not. I'm going to go to a different doctor for a second opinion
  • Thanks. I know it's a category b. I've talked to my doctor so many times with not much help. That's why I wanted to know other people's experiences
  • I would say go to a different doctor if your current provider isn't helping! Sorry I was wrong about permethrin. I never said I knew everything, I had just read that a while back and wanted you to be sure it was safe during pregnancy before you used it. When I went it, they said your scalp and face shouldn't be affected so neck down application should be fine. If you aren't showing new bites every day, I bet it's getting better for you. It takes a while for everything to heal and for the itching to stop like the NP said above.

Ok thank you. Well as for the bumps. I got two three weeks ago. Then a week later disappeared. Then I got two more a week ago, but seem to be going away. Now I have one on my butt and a bump on my neck. But I don't know if they are bites or not because they don't itch at all. I look healed it's just those few bumps here and there making me go crazy. I am going to go to a different doctor hopefully a better one

  • Also did u wash with hot or warm water?I hope warm water is enough with drying on heat
  • If you still had them 1) it would itch A LOT 2) you would be getting at least 10 or more bumps a day. They spread so fast! Hopefully your new doctor can confirm that you're all better. Warm water shouldn't be much different than hot. Wash in hot next time if you can.

Thanks a lot. If it spreads I will retreat. And yes hopefully the new doctor will confirm it. Thanks
