Carpal Tunnel

I was diagnosed with pregnancy induced carpal tunnel at about 6 months pregnant. Throughout the pregnancy the numbness came and went but it wasn't really bothersome.
Now at 5 weeks pp, I have 3 fingers that tingle all the time and go numb fairly often. My dr decided to send me to a specialist and now I have to have an EMG. If it comes up any worse than a mild case I will need surgery...Merry Christmas and Happy Birthday (New Years Eve) to me.
Anyone else dealing with pp carpal tunnel? How are you handling picking up LO when your hand is numb?

Do you wear wrist supports? They were very helpful for me. And mine just finally cleared up (10w pp), so there may be hope for you!

  • My carpal was the very last symptom to clear for my 1st pg; it took a long time but I didn't note how long. Mine was in my non-dominant hand and relatively mild perhaps so I worked around the numbness readily enough. GL - I hope you can avoid surgery. BTW - for my 2nd pg it was almost a non-issue (only a couple nights of pain during pg or numbness pp).

  • I developed it too.  I do not have the tingly sensation, instead I have the feeling of my fingers being dislocated and hard to move around first thing in the morning.  I've had this since my 23rd week of pregnancy.  I'm hoping it clears or gets better after delivery.  I had a friend that developed it really bad during her pregnancy and it continued afterwards as well.
  • I have this. My hands are still numb and hurt, and I delivered 3weeks ago. With baby #1 I didn't have this...crossing fingers it goes away soon (for all of us)!
  • I have it too but it's more of a dislocated feeling in my wrist and thumbs it sometimes feels like my thumb locks out of place.6 weeks pp so still hopefully it will be gone soon

  • I have a brace but it doesn't do much. I have already lost all my pregnancy weight and don't have any swelling so they ruled that out. After my test yesterday they ruled that I have a borderline moderate case. Because it has gotten worse instead of better they are pretty sure it isn't going to go away. Now I wait for a call back from the dr to see what the next step is. Thank you all for the encouragement!
