How long was your anatomy scan?

So DH  was going to go with me for my 20 wk anatomy scan and bring DDs and DS.. The girls are 4 & 2.. How long did yours take?  I know they won't let them in until the very end, so I thought about just having them meet me there and be a little later to help with the waiting in the waiting room..

  • I haven't had mine yet, but they scheduled an hour for each baby. Have fun :)

  • Ours was scheduled for 2 hours and it took around an hour and 45 minutes. The babies were moving around a lot and it took the tech some time to get some of the pictures she needed. We didn't want to find out the sex though, so it may have taken us the full 2 hours if we had been interested in looking between the legs!

  • mine was the full 2 hours...but baby b wasn't cooperating and there were some concerns due to his SUA and they wanted to go back and get more pictures of his heart and kidneys. Then we met with the MFM to discuss the SUA - that was another 45 minutes or so.

  • I have had 2 anatomy scans, in two different states, and both of them lasted a little more than an hour. They spent about 30 min per baby. My boys were very wiggly so it was pretty easy to get every shot they needed though.

  • Mine was an hour and forty five minutes. I remember wanting to cry toward the end because my back hurt so bad after laying that long.
  • are you sure you can have that many people in the room with you?  My MFM would only allow 2 people with you- and no children under 5.  If you have not asked- I would do so since it is a medical test.
  • They don't let them in until the very end just to see the babies.. The rest I am by myself in the room.. On the paper it had said one adult and siblings.. So... we will see..

  • All four of mine have been super short, maybe 30 minutes at the absolute maximum. My Mfm does the scan and not a tech so maybe that's why. I had my husband, mom, and sister at one of the appointments.

  • Mine was 2 hours exactly. I wanted to get off that table so bad, my back was killing me lol
  • I think mine was 1.5 hours. It's all a bit blurry, since I had been scheduled for an A/S to meet our ONE baby...and they found TWO. So I wasn't exactly in the clearest of minds. My husband was there the entire time.

  • Mine was an hour.  Both babies were cooperating so the tech didn't have any trouble.
  • I just had mine this morning and it took an hour and a half to get all of the measurements they needed of our twins.
  • Both babies cooperated so it took about an hour and a half. The tech goes first, then ahe did a transvaginal ultrasound to check my cervix, then the doc came in to check over the results (took like 5 minutes). It was probably 20 minutes each baby before we saw their penises. She started head to toe and did the gender reveal last.

  • Ours was about 45 mins to an hour. Our oldest son sat in our car with my mom watching a dvd. No kids were allowed in the office at all, not even in the waiting room because of the sensitive nature of the practice. You might want to double check with the office and see if they'll even be permitted to come into the appointment.

  • Hmmmm...this is an interesting post.  Just last week we scheduled our anatomy scan for Jan. 24th.  I spent 15 minutes arguing with the scheduler that 30min per baby probably wasn't long enough (seems like we spend 30min total just to do a "quick" u/s!), but she insists that it is.  So we have a one hour block of time total for twins.  I guess once they have me back there on the table, it if turns out we need another 30-60min due to uncooperative babies, it will be the scheduler's own poor planning that will push everyone else's appointments back that day!

  • I just had mine this morning and the entire appt took an hour. The tech said it takes her 15 min per baby if they cooperate. It felt very fast. She didn't say much about what she was doing, which kind of annoyed DH bc he felt like it was pointless for him to be there (we already knew sexes). He mostly played with DD and didn't really pay attention to what was going on. Our plan was for him to take her out of the room if she started fussing. I'm pretty sure my scan with DD was at least as long, and more enjoyable. But babies are healthy so that's all that matters!
  • It's nice that they're letting your DCs in. Our u/s won't let in children under 10.
