Am I out of line here? Why can't my OB prescribe Zofran without me having to make an appt?

First off, OP I am glad you got the script and I am sorry it was so challenging to get it. Hope it's helping...zofran saved me for sure!

To everyone flabbergasted that a doc would prescribe over the phone, have you not heard of internet visits or phone visits with NPs, such as virtuwell? Basically you go on the internet and chat with a NP or PA online. There is also a few versions of this over the phone too. You tell them your symptoms, they ask you questions, and then they give you their reccommendations and send in a rx if needed. They treat a list of common conditions and have protocols to go by, but they don't physically see the patient and don't have a hx with the patient.

Maybe you should call up all these providers/hospitals/clinics and tell them they should cancel this practice as it's too risky for their careers. Oh and welcome to the future of medicine.

Edited: as I posted before I was finished.

  • Yes, it's clearly been determined that some providers will give the rx over the phone, and some will not.  I got mine, took it for the two-three days I needed it due to not having the ability to even keep water or soup down, and am off of it - hopefully for remainder of this pregnancy.

And as I stated, my OB said they prefer a billable appointment when prescribing meds.  That is the sole reason they did not provide it over the phone, according to her.
