L&D at Sinai?

We're looking at possibly having another child but we just moved here and don't have any experience with an OB or hospital.  We live in Perry Hall/White Marsh area and after some research have decided to try to go to Sinai in Baltimore.  Our son (who is now 3) was born 11 weeks early due to a rare pregnancy syndrome I developed so we need to be somewhere with a good NICU (thus, Sinai).  I'd love some feedback on the hospital, any OB recs as well.  THanks!

Re: L&D at Sinai?

  • I delivered there both times. I had positive deliveries. I don't have any experience with having a baby in the NICU, so I cannot speak to that.

I work at Sinai, so I know many of the nurses and doctors in L&D/Postpartum/Nursery on a personal/professional level. I've always felt very cared for there.

I go to Sinai OB/GYN Associates. I personally like Drs. Jacobstein (female) and Silverman (male) the best, but they are all very nice and competent. This practice will make you rotate through all the providers, as the delivery physician will be whoever is on call for the day.

    Congrats and good luck!!!

  • Normally, I don't recommend this hospital (not natural birth friendly), but if you need a good NICU did you look at GBMC?

Just curious, did you deliver there? I was never swayed one way or another there is terms of natural vs medicated. They explained all my options, and as a patient I appreciated knowing them all so I could make the best decision for me. I know several people who've delivered at Sinai and about half were natural deliveries. Of the other half, some were on the fence (like myself) and chose to make game-time decisions.

Regardless, I think that the key is finding the right doctor/practice that you are comfortable with. Don't be afraid to voice your opinions and concerns. At the end of the day, it's your baby...your choices. Doctors are there to guide and help you.

The facilities at Sinai are nice, as are GBMC (from what I've seen while visiting friends who've delivered there).

  • @downtown80, I'm curious now to know who you are... since I also work at Sinai! :)
  • Just popping in for an update: I went to an OB at Sinai but just didn't get "the feeling".  They were very wishy washy about a future pregnancy and weren't helpful about some other things that have been going on.  We decided to try our luck at University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore.  Hopefully the OB is more receptive.
