Board Games Appropriate for 3 Year Old

I've been looking at Toys R Us and Walmart for board games that are rated for 3+ years old, but I haven't found any yet.

Does anybody know of any board games meant for this age group? Maybe I'm a bit early and we should just stick to card games like Memory?

Re: Board Games Appropriate for 3 Year Old

  • For this age range I'd try Elefun (where they catch the butterflies) or there's one called chasing cheeky monkey or something like that. There's also one for 2+ at Target that I can't remember the name of, but it's a puppy that you put bones in the bowl. Good luck :)

  • Loading the player...
  • Also there's always ones like cooties, ants in pants, candy land, etc.

  • Some of these aren't board games per se (no board), but my three-YO likes:

    - Pop-up Pirate
    - Busytown Airport
    - Dr. Seuss Cat in the Hat I Can Do That
    - Dr. Seuss Green Eggs & Ham Speedy Diner
    - Dr. Seuss What's in the Cat's Hat?
    - Hi-Ho Cherry Oh
    - Busytown Eye Found It
    - Jake & the Neverland Pirates Uno

  • We've tried the following so far...
-Candyland & Chutes and Ladders (we don't go backwards though or LO would not make it to the end!)
-Bingo (we have the Minnie Mouse Bow version, this is the biggest hit so far of all her games)
-Go Fish (the card game, we make pairs not sets of 4)
-That fishing game with the little plastic poles and the chomping fish go around in a circle...  We do this as a everyone works together to catch all the fish, not competitive, and she likes it.
-Cluck n' Chuck - found this at Target, pretty cute, but I don't know that we've every really played by the rules, we sort of make it up as we go along!

For Christmas I got her Princess Memory, this little Froggy game where you have to hop the plastic frogs into a pond by pushing on the back of them, and Hi Ho Cherry-o.

  • DD didn't get into traditional board games until 3 1/2. The ones she liked at 3 were:
Busytown Eye Spy It (highly recommend this game, award winning game and I see why)
    Elefun
    Gone Fishin

It wasn't until 3 1/2 she got into: Candy land, memory, Letter Factory, and the other more traditional board games.
