5 Thing Thursday

Its been a while since I posted one of these, but I figure this week lends itself to a couple easy questions.

1) Where are you in terms of Christmas/holiday shopping?  Are you done?  Are you a Christmas Eve shopper?  Are you half done?

2) What is your favorite part of your Christmas/holiday celebration?

3) Favorite holiday special?  Favorite newer one?

4-5 are you since it has been a while.

  • 1) Where are you in terms of Christmas/holiday shopping?  Are you done?  Are you a Christmas Eve shopper?  Are you half done?

Minus finishing my mother's stocking (my dad is lazy when it comes to Christmas and didn't get my mom anything for her stocking for years... about 10-12 years ago, I thought that was lame, forced my dad to give me $80-100 and I filled her stocking), we are done.  Everything is wrapped and under the tree.  That is, until I see something else on sale that I think the kids would like.  We started off saying we would take it easy on Christmas, but I keep running into really good deals for things and picking them up on impulse.  If we can be done by Thanksgiving, I consider that to be a success.  Normally, if we have anything left to buy after Thanksgiving, it is a few gift cards.

    2) What is your favorite part of your Christmas/holiday celebration?

Before Christmas itself, it is probably our cookie baking night and decorating the tree.  My oldest is now all about the tree and this year was a participant in cutting and decorating cookies.  Watching Christmas specials is also good too.  Christmas day, it is seeing my sister who lives 11 hours away and now that my oldest is able to understand what Christmas is, watching him open presents and get excited about it coming up.

    3) Favorite holiday special?  Favorite newer one?
My favorite one is probably Santa Claus is Coming to Town, but Rudolph and Frosty are classics too, along with Charlie Brown and the Grinch.  There have been a few pretty decent newer ones recently... I like the Prep & Landing ones and Shrek the Halls is decent too.

    4)
My oldest turned 3 yesterday.  My youngest turns 10 months old in 3 days.  Time flies when you have a kid, it goes warp speed when you have 2.

    5)  Proud to announce no new medical issues since October... thank God.  Things have just been busy, work has been forcing me in on my days off more than I like, including this evening.

  • 1) We are done, and most gifts are wrapped and ready to go under the tree.  Our tradition is to take care of the majority of our shopping in on Saturday morning after Thansgiving.  We head out around 8am, and it is awesome because the malls and stores are not crazy at that time.

    2) Family and friends.  I have off for five straight days, so I am really looking forward to some time with my father who is in town this Christmas.  I also love Christmas morning.  We make it all about the kid, and my wife makes a special breakfast just for tha morning.

    3) Favorite traditional special for me is A Christmas Story.  I have not missed that once.  It is on the whole time that TBS runs it for that 24 hour period.  Shrek the Halls is a cool newer one.

    4) I am very excited to spend Christmas with my father and son this year.  Anytime the three of us are together I am just on top of the world.

    5) Five days off from work starting end of day Friday!!!

  • 1) Where are you in terms of Christmas/holiday shopping?  Are you done?  Are you a Christmas Eve shopper?  Are you half done?

I just have stocking stuffers left.  This morning I've been writing a list of ideas for it.  This is the first time I have had to fill my wife's stocking.

    2) What is your favorite part of your Christmas/holiday celebration?

Relaxing with family.  I have the week between Christmas and New Years off.

    3) Favorite holiday special?  Favorite newer one?

Of the classics: Rudolph and the Grinch
New ones: Prep and Landing, I would probably like the Shrek one but I keep missing it when its on.

    4) I mentioned it in another thread, but I have been buying winter village Legos.  Looking forward to making building the village a yearly tradition.

    5) Pretty much my entire work group (including my manager) is taking Monday off of work.  It is the only day of work next week, but I don't see the point in taking it off since I will have the next week+ off.  Plus it will be the last time I have to get away from the house before the in-laws invade.

  • 1) Where are you in terms of Christmas/holiday shopping?  Are you done?  Are you a Christmas Eve shopper?  Are you half done?  Almost done with the shopping.  This year we are really watching our spending so we have been very careful.  Once again, I got roped into doing the bulk of the Christmas shopping.  It helps that we get a wish list from the people that we are buying for.

    2) What is your favorite part of your Christmas/holiday celebration?  Getting time to spend with family.  I also enjoy making cookies and had my mom come up with gingerbread cookies.

    3) Favorite holiday special?  Favorite newer one?  I like most of the older ones.  I haven't seen too many of the newer ones.

    4) I hate how my teeth still hurt almost a full week after getting work done.  This is the first time in roughly 27 years that I had to have any work done.  It is one of my lower ones that is driving me crazy.

    5) Since most are talking about work, our Australian group told us that they need one set of drawings only for us to rush to get them done then say that they wanted the other set done first.  The guy who normally does it is not in until Monday.  The nice thing, is that this gives me the opportunity to step up to the plate to show that I can get things done and take the lead when no one else wants to.
