Thanks, @henderson1026 - I certainly can't afford any fancy perfume... and I consider fancy just about any perfume. I have a bottle of essential oil lavender that I dab on for date night. Other than that, I pretty much smell like horses, babies, old leather and dirt - and my DH thinks I smell awesome.

Chatty, had he just said "I don't agree with homosexuality, but it's not my place to judge" then ok, I could agree that it wasn't that bad. HOWEVER, me thinks you need to read the article before commenting. Comparing being gay to bestiality wasn't even the worst of it.

He doesn't compare gay to bestiality, he encompasses it along with those who sleep around, drink too much, steal, etc, as being sinful, which is what the Bible says. That makes no sense. It's like when racist people say they're not racist because they have a black friend. It's called tokenism and it's not right.

Additionally, there is a really ugly movement in the ultra-conservative fundamentalist community where adopting a child who is non-white is "saving them" and the darker they are the more "rewards God will give you." Old church ladies are adopting children from China and claiming they're saving them from "the heathens". And, if they're black, they're "saving them from themselves". It's really messed up. 

I'm not saying that's what the Dynasty people are doing, but given Grandpa's views, you never know.

Thinking that black people were better off before they could dine in the same restaurants, attend the same schools, vote in elections, etc. makes me think he's racist.

I agree with people being surprised that this is his stance and beliefs. If you watch the show and/or know anything about the family - they're incredibly religious and have a history of being outspoken about their beliefs (well, Phil does, anyways). While I think those beliefs are absolute and total bullshit and 100% wrong and completely offensive - it definitely is anything but surprising to me that he holds them. Many Christians feel this way, and again, while I think it's utter b/s - it doesn't surprise me. 

The flipside to this, is A&E's perspective. I mean, come on - if a network broadcasts a show documenting red neck bible thumping hunters - you gotta think they've done their research and know exactly what they stand for. So, it's ok to broadcast their show knowing what they believe in.....until they say it out loud? That's basically what I get out of this.

As I stated earlier, I think they made the right choice---saying things that offend a completely innocent population of people is wrong. But I also don't think the network deserves to be shown as a hero of equal rights, either. I'd bet they knew who Phil was going into this whole business and now they have to cover their own a$$es. 

tl;dr - network made the right choice, but probably not for the right reasons.

I know not everyone agrees, but I am of the mind that stereotyping and racism go hand-in-hand. Professor Google arguing my side:

Making a generalization does not mean you intrinsically hate another race for no reason other than the color of their skin.
