need neighbor gift idea...

we don't know our next door neighbors all that well, but their teenage son cuts our grass and also helps us w/ shoveling, etc. They noticed a huge icicle on the side of our house off a pipe that is prob a leak and let us know about it & MH wasn't home at the time so he came over to show me which valve to shut off, etc. I want to give them some kind of holiday gift but am a little stuck on ideas. We have never met the wife/mom b/c she is disabled and relatively homebound and they don't really talk to us about it. They are always cordial to us & a very nice family but no idea on general things they like to do, and since she cannot go out places, I don't want to do something like a gift card for eating out or movies, etc. I could just do cookies or an edible arrangement (though in this weather the fruit would prob freeze if no one answers the door!) but am trying to think outside the box. Family of 4, 2 teenaged kids. Any ideas?
Thanks!

  • A board game they could play as a family? We really like Settlers of Catan, it would be appropriate for adults and teenagers.

  • I would just bake them something. I think buying a gift puts them in a position where they feel they need to reciprocate and also starts an annual trend. I personally wouldn't want to exchange with my neighbors every year. When people bake me stuff, I don't feel that way.

  • I think you could still go with a restaurant gift card because someone could always pick up take out.

A "movie night" gift basket might be cute with popcorn, candy, hot chocolate, a dvd or netflix gift card, etc.  Maybe use a big popcorn bowl as the basket.

  • I would just bake
  • If GC's are out I would give a gift basket or poinsetta arrangements.

  • I would bake something, or do the movie night gift basket.

  • I agree about the baking so as not to make it a reciprocating thing. However, I also like the pizza delivery- what teenager wouldn't like that?! You could give it to him as a "thank you for cutting my grass" sort of thing. Or if they have cars, maybe a book of carwash coupons.
