This will be the first year that we are staying home on xmas as a family. DH, DS and I. We will see family on xmas Eve. With that said, Christmas will be relaxed but I want to still have a meal. I will say I am not a big cook. For those of you that stay at home on xmas and are not entertaining others, do you have meal suggestions or do you throw together any old thing like you would on a regular day?
I love to cook and entertaining but this year its just us three. I am going to be lazy and shortcut on sides and stuff but I am going to do a roast duck. I'm doing stuffing from a box and pre-made cranberry and orange relish from Trader Joes. Making a veggie casserole from scratch. I am not good at making rolls so I bought some of those King's Hawaiian rolls because DH loves them. I'm also doing a cake mix from a box but doctoring it to make it taste like from scratch. And me and DD are making cookies for Santa. In the crockpot I'm doing a mulled cider to drink throughout the day, wine for me and DH, and then hot chocolate with dessert. I get really into the holidays and cooking though.
Every year we do a meal based on a Christmas movie. This years movie is 'Home Alone'. We are having a macaroni and cheese bar. I got lazy and got two things of mac and cheese from Costco. The toppings are: bacon, stewed tomatoes, broccoli (lots of broccoli so people can have it as a side if they'd like), buttered panko, steak, sauteed onions, red pepper flakes, and corn.
If any of you have mac and cheese mix-in ideas let me know! I have 1 more day to run to the store.
We like to do easy/random meals that are still special.

I LOVE this idea! So cute! What a great tradition!
You might do chili or stew. That would be easy in the crock pot. Pork tenderloin is very easy to make and would feel a little bit special.
We are going to my mom's house, and she is a wonderful cook. She is grilling steak, twice baked potatoes, homemade hot rolls, and some sides. Everything she makes is from scratch. Her apple pie is my favorite! Can't wait for a piece. She also makes a favorite candy or cookie for each person and they are wonderful. Counting down till noon so we can leave. Getting hungry!
