Co-Sleepers

I have a bassinet that I used for my DD but really she spent more time in our bed than the bassinet.  I would like to do co-sleeping as well this time as it works best with BFing, but I want something that is safer than her just being in bed with me.  I fell in love with the Bed Nest and the other one from Italy (forget what it's called) but they are both $600 and that is just out of my price range.  I was looking at the Arms Reach co-sleepers as some of them convert into playyards and I will need something like this when we go to ARG and baby is only 5 months. I have a pack n play already, but this seems a bit smaller and easier to travel with.  I am not into those little things like the Snuggle Nest that you put between the parents. I would be too paranoid. Can anyone weigh in on some good co-sleepers?

Re: Co-Sleepers

  • Had an older arms reach classic size & a new arms reach mini cosleeper. Both had a lip that prevented me from using & really liking them. The mini is a nice size though & king size pillow case works for the card board mattress cover. There is an arms reach basinette (Walmart had it at far more reasonable price than Amazon when I was loking last year. No other input though.

  • We used the Arm's Reach Original with DS and I loved it. He was preemie and I was recovering from a c-section so it was really helpful to be able to just have him right next to me but not IN the bed. It was a lot easier than grabbing him up out of a play yard or freestanding bassinet. Plus the bassinet weight limit is much higher than with play yards, so he was able to stay at bed height in the Arm's Reach a lot longer than with a play yard.

The Arm's Reach is pretty adaptable, you can use it next to your bed, as a freestanding bassinet, or as a play yard (depending on the model) and since they come in different sizes you can find one that fits your space. We still use ours when we take trips. It's not SUPER easy to break down and put up (I think something like the Nuna Sena or the 4Moms Breeze is easier) but I don't want to shell out extra money for something that we're only going to use the few times a year that we travel so we just take it on the road with us.

Just a word of advice if you do choose to go with an Arm's Reach, they have tons of different models that come in different sizes so be very clear about which model you have and only buy accessories (sheets, mattresses, covers, etc.) for that model. There seems to be a lot of confusion about this sometimes and it can be frustrating to have to return a product and track down the one you actually need. :) HTH, GL!
