Not sure how to begin

Happy storm day to all those on the east coast w me! This is my first time on this board, but I think it's well suited to me. So here's my story in a nutshell.... I have a dd8 from xh. Remarried almost 2 years ago. Dh and I have been trying for a year now and recently suffered a mc. During the exam they advised me I have possible tubal factor in at least one tube. Praying praying praying the right one is ok (since we did get a bfp). Already had cd 3&21 bloodwork. That, thyroid an dh's count is all normal. Hsg set for my next cycle after Christmas. So crazy nervous about it. I've heard its super painful if you have blockage. Also, finally got my appointment to see an re. I've been waiting since sept!! Originally, the appointment w her was for April, but I was able to get it changed and we now see her early Feb. What should I expect from that??? Dear heavens, sorry for the book! It's so overwhelming!

  • Welcome & sorry for your loss!

The pain during an HSG can vary, take some Motrin before you go.

    Good luck!

  • Welcome! I had a blocked tube, and I just had minimal cramping, but like @+SouthernMomma+ said the pain can vary between people! Good Luck to you!

  • Welcome to the boards!  I'm sorry for your loss:-(

I'm not going to lie to you, my HSG hurt like a mother!  It was like the worst cramps I've ever had...but I don't know if maybe my motrin hadn't kicked in yet or what the deal was.  I had to go back to have a selective done a few days later and that was much less painful.

Take Motrin before hand (I did 800mg) and try to relax.  I think my anxiety level made it worse too. Hoping you get good news from your HSG.

  • Welcome and sorry for your loss :( It seems you are already having a lot of the tests the RE would do. My first appt with the RE was reviewing my charting from the previous 19 months, talking about further tests we needed (SA for DH and AMH level for me) since my OB had done most of the labs they needed. Oh and scheduling my HSG. Then we talked about the plan for DH and I.

  • Welcome to the board!  I'm sorry to hear of your loss.

I've had an HSG twice, and both times were a piece of cake.  I know that isn't the case for everyone.  I took the ibuprofen they recommended before, and there was slight cramping during the fluid insertion, but other than that, nothing.  It could really go any direction.  Remember though that it is fast and brief.

The process of meeting with an RE and getting answers can often seem to take a long time.  I'd say be prepared for that.  They have to do tests at certain points in cycles, so sometimes you end up spending a few cycles figuring things out.  Good luck!

Trying for #2 with IVF after damage done in a D&C left me with one functioning (but too scarred) ovary and tube to get pregnant safely without assistance. It's a really, really long story, but that is the gist of it.  We have one daughter (whose c-section birth started this roller coaster) born in 2012 after a miscarriage in 2011.
Failed 1st attempt at IVF (Fresh ET day 3, 1 frozen embryo saved) in December 2013.
Failed 2nd attempt at IVF (Fresh ET day 5, 2 frozen embryos saved) in February 2014.
