Not that you will listen at this point, but if you would have come to this board and posed the question something like this:
"I am from the UK, and it seems through this board, that many ladies get early ultrasounds. Is that the norm in the US? I ask because here in the UK, we do not get early scans, so I was curious about it."
That would have been taken much better, provided you didn't argue with everyone's responses when we told you it was not "all Americans" who got them. And then proceed to offend everyone by calling us nasty vultures.
If you ever happen to visit the US, I would leave the arrogrant attitude in the UK as it will not get you very far on an American chat board or on the soil.
Trust me a never ever want to come to America u clearly have no respect
So, here in Canada, guess what? No early scans unless you have a history of loss, went through fertility treatments, or have such irregular cycles that you have no idea how far along you are. Otherwise, you can opt for a scan at 11-13 weeks and then you get another at 20 weeks. That's it.
Oh wait, that's exactly how it is in the US. And in the UK. What a coincidence.
Can see some more nasty people wanting to have a go lol really says a lot about some of you, nasty!! =;
Honestly, the only person that has been repeatedly "nasty" is you. No one "dived on you" you got corrected because you were stating things that are simply not true. Why am I in this thread? Because its entertaining and I want to be. Why do you care? I'm not pregnant but you don't have to be to post on first trimester. If I were pregnant right now I would shit a brick. My son is almost 5 months old. We are definitely going for #3, but not for some time.
So, since you wondered I told you. Why do you insist on calling people names and telling them their business. Its clear that you don't know what you are talking about and have done absolutely zero research. I'm not sorry about that. The way you type is a dead give away that you are not knowledgeable at all about ultrasounds, the American Health care system or really, well anything at all. You are just running your mouth.
But kindly do keep on. Its really really really funny.
O.........k ffs!!!! I get ya fucking point and yes I'm swearing because you are all repeating yourselves, your like vultures I can safely say Americans (not all of them) but you lot are nasty, vile people who have enjoyed slating me the whole day for having a fuckin opinion!!.
I don't understand how "having an opinion" makes you immune to people correcting you? You can have an opinion, but its wrong. You are wrong.
It doesn't make us "nasty, vile people" to correct inaccurate assertions that you are making. It makes us want to set the record straight because you have your head firmly wedged in your own asshole. Its only noon where I am. Hardly the whole day, sweets.
Really, you need mental help if this gets you so upset. Once you comment anyone and everyone can keep going all they want. That is why it is advisable to watch what you post. If you post stupid, argumentative shit then people will go to the deuce with you. Its the way of the message board. If you don't like it, no one is forcing you to stay!

I'm sorry, but I have no respect? You have been insulting all of the ladies on the board with your name calling and assumptions for hours.
We have all simply told you that you are incorrect in your assumptions that all American women have early scans, and to be lucky that you have no complications that are needing an early scan. Why you have chosen to become belligerant in your responses is beyond any of us.
I'm a UK mum and on behalf of all other UK mums, I want to apologise for this person's attitude.
FYI - it's completely standard and routine here to have a scan at 12-14 weeks, then at 18-21 weeks. That's it. I had one at 7 weeks this time because I had a blighted ovum with my last pregnancy and they wanted to check it was viable. That's the only reason I had an early scan. OP - believe me, it's not a boat you want to be in. Scans aren't for shits and giggles. They're medical procedures that check the progression of your pregnancy. Now pipe down.

Thank you for clarfiying your the standards of OB care in the UK. It does align with the US and Canada, as we thought it did. And we also thank you for the proper grammar, punctuation and spelling!
I lurk and have never posted before but I have to say I'm distracted by the fact that the OP lived her whole life in America until 7 months ago, yet she has embraced British slang with such enthusiasm... Wanker.

maybe we can call her Madonna.
Lol that cracks me up! I moved overseas from the states 12 years ago, and still totally sound American. I do use some local slang, just to be understood. But when people comment to me about not having lost my accent I always say Well I'm not Madonna! Her British 'accent' was just ridiculous!!!! Remins me of that Friends episode.

I'm pretty sure that was someone white knighting for the OP. Found it confusing, too.

This conversation is so old and there is a lot of ridiculous, but I have to add that there really are no norms, like some people are claiming. I personally think that it is a regional thing whether or not you are going to get a dating u/s., but that's just my opinion. It seems common in my area. My office does a dating u/s for all pregnancies and I would say they are not trigger happy or looking to milk the system. I think it's unfair to assume this. They have their office standards across the five doctors/three offices. So I wouldn't say dating u/s are uncommon or common for an average pregnancy. I think it just depends on your doctor, practice, and regional practices. Just like some doctors seems to not promote nt scans in certain areas. Some insurance companies do not cover nt scans. Mine does, and it seems like it is standard practice to cover in my region. I don't think there can be a blanket statement when it comes to u/s.

Here in the region of "Canada", there can be a blanket statement. We see our GPs for prenatal care until the 3rd trimester and GP offices do not have ultrasound machines. They cannot just decide to give a u/s whenever they feel like it. We get requisitions to get them done at clinics or hospitals. Taxpayer money pays for them so you bet they're not ordering scans that are not necessary.
Believe it or not, what was described above IS standard practice in this country.
Edited to clarify that if there are extenuating circumstances, like highrisk pregnancies or something, then this scenario would be very different. But since we are talking normal, average pregnancies here, this is how it works.
Edited again to add that the reason any of this is relevant is that the OP is from the UK and our systems are similar. So she can't argue that she's so deprived there when other parts of the world have the same standards.
I read halfway of page one and man! Get a grip OP. You flew off the handle a bit too quickly and for no good reason if you ask me. If i hadn't gotten an elective u/s then it would still be up to 5 more weeks until I get one from this date. That's if they choose to do my A/S at 22 weeks.
Out from lurking just to say this: I was only supposed to have my 20 week scan. I had one at 17 1/2 weeks, only after being rolled into the ER on a stretcher after a bad car accident. After that, I've had many more, due to being declared high risk. I've had bad contractions since 18 weeks, and I am at risk for preterm labor, among other complications. Not trying to whine, but for real, I'd rather not have ANY ultrasounds and have a healthy baby and not deal with worrying all the time about having contractions nonstop and when I should go to L & D or just wait it out, than have all the ultrasounds I have had. Count your blessings.
Re: Uk mummy's can't have early scan
Just what I was about to say.

So...what are we complaining about, again?
