Update and question

Hi, I know it's been awhile so I thought I'd post an update.  Also, I have a question.  But first, the update. :)
The boys are home and we're all doing well.  They were in NICU for 16 days, they were put on antibiotics which required a 10 day stay, then they had issues with eating.  They did finally start to understand eating from the bottle and when they left they were eating about 50-60ml every 3 hours.  Now they are eating about 100 ml every 3 hours, sometimes they sleep 4 hours (those are great nights!).  They are growing like crazy.  When they were born they were 4lb 8oz (Elijah) and 4lbs 15oz (Gabriel) and at their last dr. visit they weighed 6lbs 14oz and 7lbs 1oz respectively.  I can't wait to see how much they weigh tomorrow!  :)

On to my question.  I appear to have a slight hernia.  I had had surgery back in '98 and it seems that the very top of the incision, which is located about 2" above my belly button, it seems to have separated.  That's the only way I can describe it.  I mean, I know what a hernia looks like so I'm pretty sure that's what this is, and I know that my stomach stretched while pregnant, so it strangely makes sense for it to have happened.  My question is: have any of you ladies experienced anything like this, whether with or without pregnancy.  (I DO have a doctor appointment scheduled, just wanted some personal advice as well).  What is the typical procedure to correct this?  How long is recovery if surgery is needed?  The "hernia" is not painful in any way.  I have a wonderful husband who has been home since they were born (November 19th) and will be home until January 6th.  I know that he'd be able to care for me and the babies if needed, but I still worry about being unavailable for the babies myself.  My first concern is them and making sure I'm not a burden on someone else.  (I know, he's my husband so it's not so much a burden, but I don't want to have him burned out, he's been so completely wonderful with everything).

Also, here's some pictures of my boys! :)

Re: Update and question

  • It sounds like it could be a bit of diastasis recti (separation of the abdominal muscles) along the old incision path. It's usually not painful but people can feel bumps (organs) through it. Sometimes it can be corrected by physio. Definitely talk to your doc about it, so what they suggest.

Congrats on bringing your boys home!!
