My initial reaction is that's awesome, but then I'm like wait, house fires aren't fun. Does it make a difference that a fireman lives here? The comments were mixed. A lot people who seemed to have an issue were house fire victims. (Understandable)
My grandpa almost died in a house fire when I was 10. Since then i have major anxiety about house fires so i think this light display is really obnoxious.
A close family friend and her 6 year old son died a year ago from a house fire so I can imagine her husband would probably have a panic attack driving past this.
I'm conflicted. On one hand, my father was a longtime volunteer firefighter, as were many of his friends, and my grandfather was, too, so I can see it from that angle.
On the other hand, there have been two serious fires in two different households in my family--no one was injured but it was still quite traumatic. I've also ridden along with my father on various occasions, and fires are really serious things, so I could also see where it is distasteful.
It kind of gives me anxiety, like, "oh no, the house is burning, is anyone inside!?" though logically I think it is more of an homage to firefighters than anything else.
I was terrified of a house fire all growing up and then when I finally moved out of my parents I got a phone call at 1 am that was my mom saying their house was on fire.
I can see it being a tribute to firefighters but to me house fires aren't fun or cheery. Maybe had they been putting out a tree on fire in the yard or something I wouldn't feel so squicky about it.
Have you guys seen the prank the kids play on their mom where she comes in from the garage and they made it look like there was a fire in the house with lights and smoke machine? I cried for that lady
Re: What do think of this FB pic?
This is how a lot of posters felt also.
I'm sorry.
This is why I'm conflicted. My mind went to this.
