Restarting breast feeding

So I had to stop putting baby to breast due to LO losing too much weight and needing to supplement with formula as well as to allow my extremely raw nipples to heal. I have been able to pump and use both formula and BM for feedings. I want to try to get LO back to breast..does anyone have any experience with this? Success or failure? LO is 2weeks old.

  • Go to kellymom.com they have a ton of info. Also a local lactation consultant would be beneficial to you.

  • I would highly suggest a local lactation consultant also! :) Good luck to you and LO!

  • Also, coconut oil on for the breast tenderness really helps!

  • My friend got twins back to breast - a huge effort, one she found worthwhile. It took two to three weeks and a helping aunt. To start, every feeding she would BF DS right while pump left; hand off DS to aunt for supplement, then BF DD left and pump right; hand off DD to aunt for supplement. As one would hope the babes required less supp, to the point where she stopped pump and supp and "simply" put the twins to breast.
