Late Term and Child Loss

Moving/house showings and remembrance displays

DH and I have lived in our current location for 1.5 years and really dislike the area.  (State College, PA)  After Jesse was born the emergency medical availability (lack of and local NICU) and general treatment we received (There was NO ob/gyn on duty, we we didnt see anyone until our Dr arrived. She didn't come to the hospital until 5 hours after we arrived because she was at a Penn State game, and there was quadruple overtime... She even arrived in her Penn State fan gear right after the game ended...) it sealed the deal for us and we decided we had to get out!  DH began applying for jobs back home, and got an amazing offer last week.  This is awesome news and we are super excited to finally have something to look forward to.

Anyway, we have a photographer coming on Thursday to take photos, and the house will be on the market Friday.  In our living room, we have a short (2 shelf) bookshelf which holds Jesse's urn, a photobook, memory box  and candles.  I am super nervous about house showings etc.  Not that I think anyone would touch it, move it or anything like that, but I have some anxiety about people even seeing it- in person or in photos online.  Has anyone gone through a move and have any suggestions or experience on how you handled the situation?

Yep, we are right there with you. We keep her picture in several places throughout the house normally, as well as a whole table with her things. I keep her urn on my dresser in our bedroom.

For pictures, I put the pictures in a drawer and left the urn (the urn is in a decorative box, so its not noticeable.) For showings, I always put things away. I do not want anyone questioning or fixating on those things instead of the house. I always get them right back out after the showings.

Perhaps you have 5-6 things in other rooms you can just put on the shelf to make it look like it is used while it is photographed and then during showings.

Congrats on the new job to your DH and you!

  • We moved last year. Before showings I would put Corbin's things in a box and put it with the rest of them in the garage. After the showing I would take it all back out.
