stupid feeding question...

now that LOs are older, and eating more of a variety of foods, are you still doing the one new food for three days and nothing new in that time thing? Do I still need to worry about that? FWIW, we are not doing BLW; he is getting purees, cereal/oatmeal, yogurt and cheerios/puffs to play with/snack.

Re: stupid feeding question...

  • We have been a lot more lax about it because we haven't had any problems. Saturday he got hamburger with rice and celery and then applesauce. I try to not give him too many new things at once but I'm not as strict. I could totally be screwing up though :)

  • I gave up on that too.  She hasn't had a reaction yet.  I'll start isolating if there is a problem.

  • I gave up on the three day rule. Now that Connor is eating more table food it's impossible to single out ingredients anyway.
  • I gave up on it.. I dont worry as much anymore.  We have been grinding up a lot of foods we eat too and he loves them like chili, pasta etc.
  • Good to know. Thank you! If it's wrong... we can all be wrong together ;-)

  • Honestly we never did the three day rule thing.  An allergy reaction will happen within 4 hours of eating.  Also you usually know the foods that give upset tummy's or digestive issues the same day.

We did take the allergy foods seriously the first time we gave them.  Like if he had peanut butter on toast we waited a long time before giving him anything else and watching him like a hawk for any signs.  We don't have any allergies in our family history but you never know.  If there was no reaction we carried on as normal.

We were told by the dietitian at our solids class that an allergy happens within 4 hours so you don't need to wait. I have given LO more than 1 new food in a day before.

  • Thanks all! I'm going to stop worrying so much about it.

  • I follow it, but not purposely. It just seems that weekends are my only time to experiment without interruption, so I go about 6 or 7 days.  I'd probably still follow the rule though because I'm a big chicken.

    Samesies!
