Hello ladies!

You all seem like a nice and honest group, so I wanted to see if you would weigh in with your opinions on some of my name thoughts.

Quick background: we found out we are expecting DS #2 in May. I kind of feel like I used the only boy name option I really liked with DS #1 who is named Preston Earl (Earl being a family name from both sides).

I think I tend to prefer names that aren't super common, but nothing out there either. Like, top 300 sort of names

Anyway, BF and I are not married so the kids have his last name. I was actually thinking of using my last name, Blake, as the next DS first name. I'm leaning toward it partly because all my cousins are girls and my last name will not continue on after our generation. I know Blake is a pretty common name and I also worry about the confusion factor of explaining that it is my last name, but I don't have a ton of other names I really like. I also seem to like -er ending names, but sadly BF's last name is P____er.

So, here are my current options/thoughts. I'd love any I input/suggestions and hope you ladies don't mind if I post a few times while I narrow things down.

If you are honoring yourself, I would use it as a MN . I love Elliot (this sp) Blake .

I voted for Elliott Blake but, I think Jameson Blake would also work.

Thank you for your thoughts! I wasn't necessarily thinking of it as honoring myself, but more like honoring my line of the family. Even my aunts had expressed liking the idea of using the family last name as a first name, but one had all girls and one does have a boy, but went with Indian heritage names for his father (since my aunt was the Blake, that cousin doesn't continue the last name).

I might be okay with Blake as a first name if it was no longer your last name.  However, since you're not married, I'm assuming you're still FN Blake?  In which case, I think that could get confusing.

Me too! I tend to like mothers maiden names (or in your case your current last name) as a MN. I wouldn't side eye it as a FN, but I also like it as MN since I prefer Marshall as a FN

I voted Blake Elliot, but I think all of those are great name choices.

Thank you for all the votes! At least I know none of my options are terrible! And that I may be spelling Elliott/Elliot wrong - had not even considered that!
