Sleep Help !!

So my LO has been sleeping in her crib by herself since she was 3 weeks old and sleeping through the night for 8-10 hours a night. She is now 15 Months. I got into the habbit of letting her fall asleep with us and then putting her in her crib and she would sleep the whole night. She has been teething, but  5 have been coming out at once these past couple of weeks. She was to the point where she wouldn't sleep through the night anymore and had all the classic symptoms of teeething (fever, drooling, restlessness, etc) So of corse because she was in such pain when she would wake up screaming I would bring her into bed with us. I know horrible mistake, but now we can't get her out of that habbit. She went from a baby who would sleep 10 hours straight a night to now waking up at least once and wanting to come to our bed. Last night for example, we tried laying her down in her crib instead of our bed to go to sleep. That was not successful at all. She cried for about 2 hours. Her father is into the furber method, but I can't take it that long. Does anyone have any suggestions on how we can break our LO out the habbit of falling asleep with us. I'm sure once the teeth come in she will go back to sleeping through the night, but I want her to be able to fall asleep in her own bed. Thanks !!

  • I'm super confused by this.  Are you trying to sleep train her to fall asleep on her own while she is teething?  Like she was sleeping through the night (but fell asleep in your bed) and now is waking up due to teething and you want to train her to fall asleep on her own?  I feel like these are 2 separate issues.  When my kids are teething they are allowed to sleep with me and if they are in that kind of pain I give them Tylenol before bed.  I don't think that's a horrible mistake at all.

However, trying to sleep train while she is teething is not a good idea.  You need to wait until your LO is done teething before you think about sleep training.  I think the Ferber method is successful if used correctly.  Hopefully, that helps you.
  • Thank you everyone ! I just need to stop listening to other people who tell me it is horrible to let your child sleep in bed with you. You are all 100% right while she is teething I am going to do it my way and luckily she will go back to her normal routine when the teething is over.
