Babies on the Brain

Going to start trying soon!

Hello!  I have been married for a little over a year and I graduate college in May.  (I am an older student, 30)  I of course wanted to wait until I was done with school, however it is not a big deal if I end up pregnant in March or April and I am a couple of months along when I do graduate.  I am on the pill and am planning to go off of it either in the month of February or March.  I am SO excited, I love children so very much and I cannot wait to be a mother :)
Just wanted to share!

Re: Going to start trying soon!

  • Hello! What are you going to school for? I wouldn't see the big deal in being a few months along when you graduate either. But what about when you are applying for jobs? Legally you can't be denied a job because of a pregnancy, but I'm sure some places are shady and get around it.
  • Hi!  I am going to school for Human Development and Families. I am currently a substitute teacher at an early learning center, so technically I already have a job.  Also, my husband does well enough at his job that we could get by on his salary alone (we pretty much are doing that now anyways) the little bit I make does help but sadly they do not pay subs that great. I would want to stay home with the baby for as long as I can and then I would be ok with finding something part time or at night so I would be able to spend as much time as possible with my child.

I know what you mean though about waiting and applying for jobs, I am just SO ready and excited!

  • Just keep in mind, your cycle can take a few months to regulate after stopping BC.
Mine was all over the place for a while.
If you want to get pregnant in March, I would think about getting off BC now-ish.
That way you can start learning how to temp and chart etc., and you might be a little more regular by then.
Just speaking from my experience at least... Coming off BC can be super frustrating.

    GL!

  • Thanks for the advice. I'm not trying to plan like crazy so I won't be monitoring ovulation or anything of that sort. I just want to be off the pill soon and when it happens, it happens :)
  • I have also heard you could get pregnant quickly after stopping the pill...

Welcome. It's different for everyone. I'm on my third cycle off BCP and I've been one of the lucky ones whose cycle has stayed a "normal" length. You'll find lots of women have several long cycles or cycles where they don't ovulate when they first get off BCP.

I can understand not wanting to plan too much, and I felt the same the first cycle, but after not knowing when my period was supposed to show up and taking a lot of (dollar store) tests it got really frustrating. Even if you don't want to plan, I'd highly suggest reading the pinned "newbie blog" on the Trying To Get Pregnant board. Don't post yet, but definitely read the while blog.

    Good luck!

It's different for everyone. You just never know, especially if you aren't charting or tracking.

I'm on my second cycle after stopping BC and so far, everything has been pretty normal but that could change at any time. I am temping, charting and using OPK's though so that helps me have a better understanding of things.

    GL.

This. I am on cycle day 27 and haven't shown any sign of being close to ovulating and this is my first cycle off birth control. I am resigning myself to hunkering down for the long-haul and potentially needing help to jump start my cycle.

Omg Maui! I didn't know you were off the pill! So excited for you!
  • I'm kind of in the same boat as you are! I'm also 30 and my husband and I have been married for a little over 3 years.  I'm planning to get off the pill around Feb and hoping to just let things happen naturally after that.  Good luck and best wishes!
  • Congrats, my DH and I also plan on starting TTC in may and I plan to go off BC this month.

  • Hello! I'm new to the board, and will be hoping to conceive my first, so I don't have much advice to offer in terms of actual conception. That said, I've been off BC for 1 year and 3 months now, and charted to avoid pregnancy for the first six months or so. My cycle returned to normal pretty immediately, but I know it differs for everyone. For my part, we are tentatively hoping to start "trying" this fall. I'm hoping to take the "when it happens, it happens" attitude as well, but the fact that I used to chart has made me super aware of when I'm fertile, even without temping. So I'm sure that having that familiarity will sway when MH and I have sex, even if we don't call it "trying." Regardless, you'll learn a ton about your body if you start monitoring your cycle. It's actually pretty fun, IMO, because I just love witnessing how the body works. I would recommend giving it a try. Welcome!

  • Hi! I agree, temping is a good idea, but if you don't want to, well then don't. I am sooo thankful I have because I would always get phantom symptoms because I want a baby more than anything, so BFNs are the past, I'm hoping the next HPT I take is BFP. Baby dust to everyone!
  • Newbie here too. I'm going to start charting with my next cycle (around Friday) and am nervous that I will forget to record my temp one morning. Hopefully having it night stand beside me will prevent me from forgetting. My DH and I are hoping to start trying with my March cycle. It feels surreal that it's so close! I'm 29 and DH is 32. I graduated with my MSN 1 year ago and got some experience under my belt first..not really because I wanted to but more because DH was wasn't ready it. Finally he's ready and I'm like "really?! yay!" :)
