Looking for support and encouragement

I've been a lurker on here for a while and am now coming for some support. I am 33 weeks and my water broke last night. I was having Braxton Hicks all day and thought it was normal. I have been admitted and given steroids to strengthen the baby's lungs, magnesium to slow the contractions, and antibiotics to prevent infection. They are hoping I can hold on for another 48 hours so the steroids can work. But most likely we will have this little girl by Friday when I hit the 34 week mark. I'm am very nervous about her being here early and going to NICU. Also- totally not prepared- car seat not in the car, no clothes washed, and I still had 4 more weeks at work. Right now any words will be appreciated!

T&Ps that LO will stay put for as long as possible. Don't stress about the things that still need to get done, car seat can be installed at the hospital, and all the other stuff can wait!!!

My water broke at 29 weeks 5 days and I am set for c/s this coming Wednesday. I've been on hospital bed rest for a month. I know how you feel about everything you said and it is scary but 34 weeks is a great milestone and has been the one my doctors and I have been aiming for the whole time. We'll be thinking of you and don't worry about the little things ... The seat will get installed even if it's 5 mins before you take baby home ... And she will be adorable and safe and warm in in her clothes.., I hope the best for you both and that you find good support here.. A handful have had their babies already and are progressing greatly!!!

A lot of mamas here had unexpected early delivery of their LO's who are doing great. It is hard when you don't feel prepared, but it will be okay. Maybe some family and friends can help with the cleaning and getting the house/car seat ready while you're waiting for your baby to make his or her entrance into the world. Just relax, try to get some rest and trust that you will both be okay. Best wishes to you!

I had a 31 weeker. He was very healthy. He did require NICU time, but mostly for eating and gaining weight. I didn't have my car seat installed, but they can do that for you at the hospital. I didn't plan on being off so soon either, but sometimes unforeseen things happen. It's scary, but you'll make it through. Best of luck.

Update**** Our healthy baby girl arrived December 18th, 2013 at 5:39 pm weighing 5.6 lbs. She is breathing on her own and will remain in the NICU until she can gain weight and make sure she is feeding well. Thank you so much for all your support, advice, thoughts, & prayers.

Sorry you're having to go through this. Not sure if this makes you feel better, but I've been battling pre term labor issues since 24 weeks and my goal was to get to 34 weeks. I just got our of bedrest and told me to take it easy. Of course we want to make to term but I just want to give you reassurance that most babies at 34 weeks do well. I remember speaking to the neonatologist when I was in the hospital and thinking I really needed to make to 34 at least because the chances of complications were so much smaller.

Chances are your baby will be in NICU for a max of 2 weeks (although there are cases they might stay longer) just learning to eat and keep body temperature. If you took your steroid shots, especially, lungs should be good. Of course there are always exceptions but vast majority of babies do really well.

It's a scary thing but hang in there and keep us posted.
