TTC after 35

Frustrated...

I'm 37, H 42. My sister just announced she pregnant with #3.  Been TTC for about 6 months. Doc put H on cholesterol meds and a side effect is ED. Are there any natural supplements that can help?

Re: Frustrated...

  • What is your husbands diet like? Also, does he exercise? I would pursue lifestyle changes (assuming his high chol isn't hereditary only) along with meds and see if that helps, and maybe he can come off the meds?

  • He works out 3 to 4 times a week, he is not overweight. His diet is not the greatest but it's better than it used to be.

This hasn't been going on for very long, so I'm hoping it's mostly mental. He doesn't want to talk about it yet. But is willing to try stuff. We looked online and found "horny goat weed" might do the trick. So I'm thinking if it is mostly in his head then taking a herbal supplement will somehow help. Thoughts on that?

The doc put him on the meds for 6 mos and then will recheck his cholesterol level. He has about 2 mos left to be on them.

It's just frustrating that my sister can get pregnant so easily and I am at the point when everyone is asking that annoying question of when are we going to have a baby. Are there any good comebacks?

  • One of the women on this board suggested just being direct and forthright with others who ask: Trying to conceive over 35 can have challenges. I'm the kind of person that would also say: "Thanks for your interest, and I'm happy to let you know when there's news to share." :)

  • My husband also has ED and it is a challenge. Some times are better than others. He used cialis for a while then stopped taking it. Now he does a few shots of tequila and swears it helps. His ED is mostly from stress so I guess the tequila just takes the edge off. He says it is a stimulant but I don't if that is true or not.
I know the frustration you are going through. Maybe in 2 months his cholesterol will be lower and you can work on his diet so he can stay off the meds.
I know with my husband his overthinking about having to preform is what causes his ED.
    Good luck to you.

  • Oh I have several good comebacks depending on who is asking, how they ask or my mood..

If they mean no ill will  I just say " All in God's timing" if they won't let the issue drop I say something like.  I know you are curious but that is a hurtful question.

For the super nosy person  I say " I will forgive you for asking if you forgive me for not telling"

    Confession.....
I had a male relative bait me and another female family member the other day about why we don't have kids.  How we needed to preserve the "family line" etc... He wouldn't let the issue drop... I snapped.  I said " I lost a baby recently but thank you for bringing up the most painful moment of my life."  I told him how hurtful and innapropraite his questions were and the next time we have news to announce he will be the LAST to know. That if I ever again heard him discussing the fertility of myself or any other females in the family I would cut his balls off.   I think he got the point. I actually think I made him tear up.  He apologized.  I felt a little bad afterwards but seriously he deserved it.

  • @totallycow I am not sure if this will be helpful for you but it's worth a shot. (I also accidentally came on this board, I am usually on 2 other boards)

When my DH and I started TTC, we jumped the gun and I wanted him to get a sperm analysis 3 months into trying. His results were bad, like really bad... We read up for natural things online to do and he started taking Zinc, daily vitamins and started drinking pomegranate juice. he went back after 2.5 months to the sperm analysis doc and re took the test. The doctor was so amazed by his results that HE actually asked my husband what he was doing differently.

Also my DH was on a medication that affected his sperm, he was still on that medication when he took the second test. So we really do believe that natural supplements really helped since clearly his medication affected things.

The supplements also raised his energy levels, so maybe it would do the same if your DH medication causes ED? Hope this helps...
  • Thanks ladies! I will check into your suggestions. DH decided to skip the meds for 2 days to see what happens and that was def the prob. He says he is hoping for a Xmas miracle that we conceive :) (How cute is that?!) I buy my Ovulation prediction tests and pregnancy tests at the $1 store. Does anybody else? Do you think they are just as good as the more expensive ones?
