Fluid leak question

My doctor said fluid could leak very slowly but my question is, just how slowly are we talking about here? This is a weird description but all I can come up with - I'll feel like a slow bubbling feeling in the vag area and then go check and see that my panty liner is wet. Not soaked at all, but definitely 'moist' (I hope you hate that word as much as I do). It looks completely clear and has no odor that I can detect but it is in such small amounts, I just don't feel like it's amniotic fluid. Then I start worrying that I'm leaking and I'm not doing anything about it.

I see my doctor on Monday so I'll bring it up then and obviously if it increases, I'll call in BUT I was just hoping to hear from those with experience. I'm trying not to call them unnecessarily but it's gone on long enough that I'm debating.

Please excuse the repeat question if this has been asked a billion times before and repay me with a virtual slap. My Starbucks hasn't kicked in yet so I don't have the stamina to check through previous posts.

Re: Fluid leak question

  • I'm not really sure but I just want to say I'm totally with you on the word "moist." Gross

  • I would love to hear someone with experience on this too. It's been happening to me since late last night but contractions are not getting stronger or closer together so I am at a loss.
  • When my AF leaked with DD it was constant. Every time I stood or moved it was a little gush. Even after i peed i stood up from toilet it leaked a little. Not enough to soak panties each time but had to put in liner because it was constant.

    1.Moist is awful.

    2. I had some leakage at the hospital before my water full on broke and it was enough to make a panty liner wet. It would come out like maybe a few tablespoons at a time and definitely had a very distinct sweet smell to it. This, again, only happened a few times before I moved and completely broke it. I would definitely look for a smell, I don't remember any bubbling but it could be the case!
  • Cervical mucous and vaginal discharge increase towards the end of pregnancy.  If it is not enough fluid to soak a pad and remains a trickle I probably would not be concerned.  If the volume of fluid increases then call your Dr., otherwise definitely mention it at the Monday appt.

  • My fluid started leaking and within an hour I felt I gush. The biggest thing I noticed about the fluid was that it was a slight pink color. I wore a pad within the hour after the gush and it was not soaked through but as you said it was moist. Keep an eye on it.

  • When my water broke it was in small gushes.  My underwear was soaked with each small gush (oh brilliant one didn't have panty liners on hand because I was certain LO wouldn't come until 40 wks…boy was I wrong).

  • I have had that slow bubbly vag thing for the last week too! But I definitely only have regular discharge, no suspicious fluids. The bubbly feeling started after a bout of massive diarrhea, so I'm leaning towards it being some sort of muscle spam. And it has gotten less frequent over time, to the point that I only notice it a couple times per day now. I did have an u/s last Monday - I think they would have caught a bubbling of fluid, right? All they said about my fluid was that I had enough!

  • I thought I was leaking af, it turns out it was discharge & my baby cork slowly breaking down, causing the trickle feeling.

  • I'm inventing a pad that turns a certain color when it detects AF. Solves everything.

    Genious!

I've been having this feeling too, but I'm pretty sure it's just a gross amount of discharge. I do the "smell test" now ever time I wipe.... Pregnancy is so much fun

    This is a brilliant idea!

I had a slow leak last pregnancy and I am going to tell you to go get check if there is any doubt in your mind. I had three false alarms before the actual leak and felt silly going in a again. It wouldn't have been a waste of time though, because of me waiting ds was born with an infection and spent a week in the NICU and I still feel terrible about it. I never had enough to fill a pad with my slow leak, his head blocked the fluid from gushing out, I would have small gushes when I sat down after awhile, but they weren't huge. I just had a constant wetness, clear with no smell.

Also a little watch or something that beeps when your contractions are real rather than just stupid Braxton hicks. We need to take the guess work out if whether you're really in labour or not!!!
  • I went 3 days thinking I had become incontinent. I was leaking very slowly just enough to have to change panty liners 2-3 times a day/ night. When I finally went in I was induced right away but they didn't bother to actually break my water for another 9 hours so it must not have been that big of a deal. Either way if you are worried about it I would go in. There is a test they run to check and will do an ultra sound to check the fluid level. Hope this helps. Good luck!

  • I was loosing liquid and not even noticing ... It was expericing the same as u are , no gush of liquid or anything like that, my panties would get "moist". I don't mean to worry u, but I would keep an eye on it ..
  • So glad you posted... this has been me the past two days. I ended up calling the on-call OB after feeling a tickle feeling between my legs. I had a wet spot on my underwear, but not huge. The OB told me to walk around for 15 minutes and check the liner I put in. It was dry, so I tried the lying on my side for a half hour just to double check. No wetness. Bah. The other part of this is story is baby girl was REALLY active during the whole event. I was pushing her feet out of my ribs and she kept kicking back. That made me nervous that she was in distress, but she calmed down once I laid on my side.
I was a bit sad when I confirmed it was probably discharge and nothing more. Some wetness again today too, nothing soaking... maybe we are all in prep mode!

AF seemed to me to have a very distinct smell, floral and sweet. Mine did burst out in a crazy gush, though, so that might explain why the smell was so noticeable.
