Hi Ladies,

I'm new to this board.  We are in the very beginning of the IF journey.  Met with an RE just before Thanksgiving.  Now we are going through all the start up testing.  My HSG is today.  Any advice?  Does it hurt?  I'm nervous about all of this, but in the same respect I just want to get underway and start treatment or figure out what's going on with us.

    Hi, welcome! I haven't had my HSG yet, I will as soon as AF shows up. These ladies are wonderful and I'm sure someone will be able to give you HSG advice :)

    Thanks!  I'm still trying to wrap my head around all of this given that it was so easy with DD back in 2010.  Amazing how time can change things.

    Hi there! Welcome.  You will find that everyone has a different opinion of an HSG.  For me it was just crampy, and then AF like cramps for a couple hours, but for me it was NOT painful, just uncomfortable.  Good Luck!!

    Yes it hurts. That's why they tell you to take Motrin before you go in.

    Welcome! I've had 2 HSGs. The first was very easy with no pain or cramps at all. The second was just a couple weeks ago. I started to cramp during it, and then terrible cramps after lasting until my ibuprophen kicked in. I'd recommend taking meds right before.

    Two DDs 10/08 and 08/10, no primary IF
    TTC #3 since 10/2011 - dx unexplained/weak ovulation
     3 BFN clomid + TI cycles, 5 BFN clomid/gonal f IUIs, 1 mmc IUI
    2/19/2014 IVF #1 Unexpected low E2 (oversuppressed) -> increased to max doses = 3 or 4 follicles, converting to IUI
    BFFP Saw 1 beautiful heartbeat at 6w6d, follow up u/s at 9w showed mmc. Eff this.
    NTNP 5/2014-9/2014, OPKs and TI 10/2014 - 1/2015. 
    RPL testing all normal, AFC, AMH, and FSH all normal. 
    IVF 1.2 1/22/2014 natural cycle start, AFC 28, 300 gonal f/150menopur. 
    ER 2/3/15 14R 8M 3F w/ICSI Day 5 transfer on 2/8/15 of one "Grade A+" blast and have TWO frosties!

    Welcome.  Yeah, the HSG hurt me a lot.  But it was fast, so that was good.  I would don't make any big plans for the rest of the day.  Hope it goes well and that this journey ends soon for you.

    HSG, ugh. Crampy and uncomfortable. Real fun when they can't find your cervix (seriously- you do this for a living????). Just have a good sense of humour and think happy thoughts! Welcome!

    Welcome.  Hope your HSG went well and was a breeze!

    Trying for #2 with IVF after damage done in a D&C left me with one functioning (but too scarred) ovary and tube to get pregnant safely without assistance. It's a really, really long story, but that is the gist of it.  We have one daughter (whose c-section birth started this roller coaster) born in 2012 after a miscarriage in 2011. 
    Failed 1st attempt at IVF (Fresh ET day 3, 1 frozen embryo saved) in December 2013.  
    Failed 2nd attempt at IVF (Fresh ET day 5, 2 frozen embryos saved) in February 2014.

    Welcome! I'm new here too. Trying to be more active.

    I had an HSG on Monday and it wasn't terrible. Just discomfort and mild cramping. Hoping it was easy for you!!

    And as a bonus I've read it *can* help you conceive for a couple months after. 
    BFP: 5/10/14 after 14 cycles of trying!
    EDD: 1/21/15
    5/12 1st beta: 28
    5/14 2nd beta: 87.5
    5/23: 3rd beta: 4000.6 + saw gestational sac and yolk sac
    5/30: 4th beta: 17,852 + saw fetal pole and heard heartbeat! 127 BPM!

    Hi Everyone! 

    Well HSG hurt more than I expected.  They couldn't get any of the contrast to go through my left tube:-(  Dr wasn't sure if it's because it is blocked or because it spasmed because of the pain.  So I go in again tomorrow for a specialization/specific (I totally forget what they said...I think i turned it off because my mind was reeling).

    Fingers crossed that tomorrow is more conclusive, one way or the other. I'm more bummed because I had to abstain this weekend in order for them to do it on Monday.  I'm hoping I didn't ovulate early this month.  I'll keep you ladies posted. Thanks so much for all the support!  You are really a great board.

    I am sorry it was rough. I have heard that if a tube has blockage that sometimes the procedure will clear it and then the egg is free!!!! Freeee!

    Went back in today.  It looks like my left tube is blocked:-(  Not sure what that means for having baby 2.  I also don't know if it's always been blocked.

    I'm just feeling frustrated because we had DD with no problem. 1 month TTC and bam beautiful little girl 9 months later.  Who knew all this other stuff was going on.  I guess I should just be thankful that we have the medical advances to help hubby and me conceive.  Sorry...I'm still trying to wrap my head around all of this and just needed to whine a little.  So I guess I wait for the doctor to contact me.  DH went in for his semen analysis today too, I'll find out results tomorrow. The waiting to know what our plan is, is making me crazy!

    Sending many good thoughts. I'm at the beginning of our IF journey too. Same here, conceived DD first cycle off birth control. Bam. Never expected problems and it is so very frustrating. I'm sorry the HSG didn't go well. What a pain to have to go back!

    suzieq9980 - I had a blocked tube too, (sadly I think I have worse case scenario) but you can still conceive through the other side.  Did they say that side was ok?

    @freakyfast, they did say the other side was fine.  However, Dr just called with preliminary on DH semen analysis.  Minimal if any sperm:-(  It could be due to his low testosterone but who knows.  Dr also said I look like I have some scarring in my uterus, so I go for saline sonogram next cycle.  I'm getting tired of being told there's something wrong with me every few days.  How does everyone cope with that?  Right now I just want a big glass of wine and to tell the world F off!  I'm allowing myself today to mope.

    Well I had a blocked right tube, and a hydro in the left.  I ended up with an ectopic pregnancy in the right tube.  We had to move forward with IVF, and my RE would not do IVF because my tubes were so bad without removing them. (Because of endometriosis) So sadly I have no tubes left, and can not conceive naturally.  BUT I am certain I am worse case scenario, and you can still ovulate out the undamaged tube.  There is someone else on this board that only has one tube too.
