Babies: 6 - 9 Months

Waking up every 15 minutes

My LO's sleep has gotten increasingly worse over the last almost 2 weeks. She's gotten fussier, whinier, harder to get her down. The hardest part to deal with is at night. Before all this, she was waking up twice a night to feed with no problem falling asleep on her own in her crib. First night, she woke up every 2 hours crying. Then it was about every half hour from 7pm to about 2am. Last night it was about every 15 minutes waking up crying. I put her to sleep earlier to see if an earlier bedtime would help. She fell asleep around 6:15 but then was up half an hour later, then every 15-20 minutes after that. I finally put her in bed with me at 10:30 because I got too tired to deal with it honestly, and she slept until 4:00am. The night before, however, when I put her in bed with me, she still woke up crying, so it's not necessarily that she wants to sleep with me. We have tried CIO but she works herself up so quickly and intensely and throws up. So we don't want to use CIO. She doesn't seem to be teething, no teeth are popping through, and giving her tylenol didn't help. She shows no signs of physical pain during the day. I get the feeling that her whining is because she is overtired, but I don't know how to help her sleep better. She's also always been a short napper, taking 3 naps most days that are no longer than 45 minutes. Sometimes they're just 20 minutes. Has anyone gone through this and it was just a phase? Did you do something other than CIO to help your LO?

Re: Waking up every 15 minutes

  • Get the wonder weeks app & see if she's going thru a stormy phase. Or tell me your DUE date (not birth date) and ill look it up for you

    Either way, it'll pass eventually.

  • teeth.  it sucks.

my usual great sleeper has been up every 30-40min all night for a few nights.  when she is asleep she is whimpering and crying in her sleep.  it's a pained cry.

Tylenol sometimes helps a bit, but not much.

Just do what you can to survive.  I have her in bed with me, it gets me a couple extra minutes of sleep through the night and it makes her more comfortable and she is calmer.

My daughter has done this for a few nights before each of her teeth popped through, despite the gums looking absolutely normal then bam a tooth and she goes back to great night sleep.

  • If its teething, check out the hylands teething gel. Works like a hot damn!!!
  • Thanks ladies. I'm hoping it is just teething.
