Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

Bottle problems with my toddler

I don't know how to get my 16mth old off her bottle, I've tried every sippy cup imaginable she drinks out of straws and sippys as long as it's not milk... Help me please!

Re: Bottle problems with my toddler

  • Have you tried an open cup or a "training" open cup? Does your LO do yogurt, cheese, etc? If so, I wouldn't stress that much about it. I would probably take the bottle away and keep offering, but milk isn't a 100% necessity after age 1 if they are getting calcium and healthy fats from other sources.

  • DD doesn't drink milk.  Only water.  At 15 months, I switched from bottle of formula to sippy of water at bedtime.  She loved it.  She eats plenty of food, and I don't worry about milk.
DS born 8/8/09 and DD born 6/12/12.
  • I did the opposite with my first. I really didn't care so much about getting rid of them- slowly phased to morning and night only, then just morning. We dropped them around 2. With my second, we just took them away one day at around 17-18 months, and she didn't really care. My first really was attached, and I didn't think it was a big deal to wait. But just my own opinion and it was easy once we did it.
