I'm having a pity party sort of day today. Lots going on at one time.
One thing is that it is our current nanny's last day with us. She has been with G since he was 3 months old. He loves her so much and she him. She is awesome and fiercely dedicated to him. Even he cranky old dog loves her to pieces. But due to health issues, she decided she needed a part time position that is less physically demanding. And right now our kids are pretty physically demanding. So for the last few weeks we (I) have been working to find her replacement. No easy task with G's issues and my type A-ness.
Since G is so little, we know he can't process it all. So we are telling him simply that she is going home to be with [her husbands name], and if he asks we'll say that's where she is. We have lots of pictures of them together, and after he adjusts to the new nanny we'll visit her.
Right now she's reading him stories and singing Christmas carols to him in polish and English and I am in an adjoining room crying while I nurse A.
We are so lucky to have someone care for the kids at home, but in doing so they really become part of your family. As crazy as she can be, I feel like a relative is leaving us.
Transitions are hard.
