Sleep regression or Separation Anxiety?

So, we are on day 3 of some sort of sleep regression/separation anxiety thing.  For whatever reason, Thomas is randomly waking up and screaming bloody murder in the middle of the night and during naps.  He's exhausted - he still needs to sleep longer, but he refuses to go back to sleep.  As soon as DH or I walk into the room, he quiets down and lays down.  As soon as we leave, the screaming starts again.  The last two nights we ended up letting him cry it out, but I thought we were through this.

He's currently in his crib acting as though jack the ripper is in there with him.  I go in to check on him in intervals (as we did with our sleep training), but it only seems to give him a seconde (or third, or fourth) wind once I leave again.  Anyone else going though/gone through this?  What did you do?  It's only day 3 of this crap, but I am really over it.

  • This is worse than the first round of sleep training - he cries, "Mama, Mama!" the whole time...

  • OMG all of this is us to a T. I AM EXHAUSTED. I'm glad that it's semi normal and y'all are dealing with it too. I've felt so helpless

  • Thanks for all the responses guys!  He's still sleeping this AM, I'm sure he's exhausted from losing his crap early this morning before he should be getting up.  I'm hoping for sleepy dust for all of us!

@mightybee - thanks for the reminder, "This too shall pass".  I need to make that my middle of the night mantra.
