Stuffed animals go through the washer and dryer here. If they can't survive that they can't survive an infant/toddler! Just too many germs and bodily fluids to contend with.
I will throw just about any toy (fabric, stuffed animal, etc.) in the washer/dryer. I put them in a thin pillowcase and tie it shut. Never had a problem with them not coming clean or falling apart.
I have also heard of some people making their own cleaning solutions. I bought my son a really cute cloth toy chest but im not sure how to clean the surface.
I like 7th generation wipes because they don't have the nasty chemicals and sometimes I'm too lazy to do anything about it. I've read that distilled vinegar with essential oil works wonders and you can put it in a spray bottle also, but again I've been too lazy/busy lately to try it out.
