  • Its pretty simple.. You go in, lay down, and they put two little thingamajigs on your belly.  One will read contractions and the other will monitor the baby's heartbeat.  They want to watch the baby's heart rate go up as baby moves.  So make sure you eat and drink something beforehand to get LO moving and active… otherwise you get stuck there forever or sent over for an ultrasound.  You usually only have to be hooked up for about 30 minutes.. Not bad, boring if you have no one to talk to!
I go in for them twice a week! Fun, Fun!

    Good Luck!

  • My dr.s office gives me juice and a cookie when I get there. I'm usually hooked up for an hour. But I would pack a little something, just in case. Pp is right, they will send you for an u/s if things aren't looking right (or sometimes to L&D to be monitored).
  • Baseline fetal heart rate established for about 10 mins. Need to have 2 fetal accelerations 15 beats above baseline for 15 sec then they need to calm down and repeat. Within. 20 min of each other. Mine gives me ice water to help stimulate her activity if she's too sleepy or they have a vibrator/buzzer that will help wake them if they aren't busy enough.
  • Cool. Thanks ladies
