Re: Wellness Check-in

  • Thank you for posting this, @doodah1013!  I was posting it for a while and I have totally been preoccupied so I'm glad you stepped up.  I definitely don't feel like it's "my" thread so others should feel free!

I'm a little concerned, given the holidays and my natural predisposition to pack on weight when not on a strict WW regimen, about pregnancy weight gain.  I talked to my OB about it today and she wants me to aim to gain 20-25 lbs but didn't make me feel terrible about the possibility of gaining more and acknowledged that, given fertility treatments, I probably am not starting out where I would have otherwise and that's OK.  THANK YOU FOR ACKNOWLEDGING THIS!

I also asked about running, which my PT said I can start (as far as my foot is concerned) in January.  It's a no go, since my body isn't really accustomed to it anymore.  Oh well.  But I am trying to motivate to get back to the gym, and my wife and I are talking about buying a treadmill so we can work out at home.

    Yeah @lamaitresse!

Yep, that's how I started running in the first place.  I could not have done it without a C25K!  The problem now is that you aren't supposed to start any new types of exercise in pregnancy that your body isn't already accustomed to.  I was running until August and had been for a couple of years, but then I broke my foot and haven't been allowed to run since.  Since I haven't run for the first 9+ weeks of pregnancy (and wouldn't be able to start until at least 12-13w if I waited until January), they want me to hold off until after I have the baby.  I'm kind of bummed, but I was expecting that they would say that.  It's just too bad because if I hadn't broken my foot, I'd still be running and it would be fine to continue through most of pregnancy.

  • @lamaitresse - What a wonderful accomplishment!

Well, I went to WW tonight for the first time in a few weeks.  Most recently, I wasn't going because of the surgery and before that it was work related stuff.  I figured a gain was in the making and boy was I right.  I gained 5 pounds, which now puts me 2 pounds above where I started back in January.  That's right...been at this for almost a year now and it hasn't been going so well.  I'm vowing to get back in the saddle and move forward though!

Our Christmas party at work is next week.  Everyone makes delicious food and there is never a shortage of goodies.  I'm taking a veggie platter in an effort to offer myself and others a healthier option to munch on.

    Me: 30  DW (aka C): 29

Together since 2/15/11 ~ Legally married in NY on 9/29/12

    ***CP mentioned***

We've been working on baby #1 since July 2013 using Open ID donor sperm.  8 IUI attempts with 5 actual IUIs and one chemical pregnancy.  We have one fresh IVF cycle under our belts as well as a FET.  I have endometriosis and a uterine septum that was corrected via surgery in November 2013.

11/14/14 -  Second HSG shows that tubes are still clear and ute is looking good.

12/6/14 - Started BCPs in prep for IVF #2

12/22/14 - Saline u/s and endometrial scratch (All was clear and OUCH!)

    1/2/15 - Began stimming for IVF #2

  • So.... I was pretty shocked when or new RE suggested I lose some weight... Being that I eat healthy, I workout often and I am on the muscular side and even when I was playing college soccer was barely under the overweight line... But I would do anything to increase or chances so I have been hitting the gym even harder (5x's a week) and am training for a NYE 5K. I am also trying to cut out the majority of simple carbs... Which is super complicated around the holidays...
But I am excited to report that today I was down 2.5 lbs from last week. Mostly water weight I am sure... But better than nothing!
Good work everyone! Stay strong through the holidays!

  • I was doing so well on my high protein, low carb thing. And now I'm not. I'm still eating way more protein than usual but also have been eating cookies that M made, some chocolate covered acai berry things that @firstcomeslove2013 and @doodah1013 sent with the ornament, and some junk food I've found on my own.

I was losing weight with the high protein and low carb thing even though I wasn't restricting calories. I would like to get back to that.

I was planning to sign up for a 6 month challenge on diet bet in January but it will be at the beginning of our stimming. Not sure if that's the best timing. But I guess it is 6 months so even if I gain a bit in the first weeks, I will have plenty of time to lose it.
    ****loss discussed*****

We're queer. I'm 33, have severe stage 4 endo, and had both fallopian tubes removed. My love ("Manada" on the boards, 32) was diagnosed with diminished ovarian reserve. We did Partner IVF (my eggs, her uterus). We lost our twins Tavin and Casey at 21 weeks gestation.

    Our IUIs
with @Manada: IUI# 1-7 (December 2012- September 2013) all BFN. Tried natural, femara, clomid, puregon/follistim, clomid and menopur combo, both the ovidrel and HCG triggers.

    Our IVFs:
IVF #1 my eggs November/December 2013: Cancelled IVF due to poor response

    IVF #2 my eggs/Manada's uterus January/February 2014
BCPs and lupron overlap Stimmed: 1/22-2/2: Bravelle and Menopur (dosage ranged from B300 and M150 to B375 and M150 to B300 and M225)
2/4 retrieved 10 eggs. Endo was much worse than expected. Only 3 eggs fertilized; February 7 transferred two day 3 embryos, froze one. All great condition.
    BFP eve of 6dp3dt; Beta 1 (11dp3dt): 110; Beta 2 (13dp3dt): 175; Beta 3 (15dp3dt): 348; Beta 4 (19dp3dt): 2222; Beta 5 (21dp3dt): 4255
    1st ultrasound (3/6  6w 1d): TWINS!!!! Twin A measuring 6w1d with a heartbeat of 118bpm. Twin B measuring 6w0d with a heartbeat of 113bpm.

***July 18, 2014 we lost our beautiful babies at 21 weeks gestation. They were born too early. Tavin Sara T. and Casey Elizabeth T. are beautiful and precious and we will love them and miss them forever.***

    FET #1 December 2014
Intralipid infusion on Dec 10. Transfer of 1 day 3 nine-cell embryo into my uterus on Dec. 19. (acupuncture immediately before and after)
    BFP on Dec. 27; Beta 1 Jan 2 (14dp3dt): 665, Beta 2 Jan 4 (16dp3dt): 1859, Beta 3 Jan 6 (18dp3dt): 4449, Beta 4 Jan 10 (22dp3dt): 12,251.

  • Congrats on the weight loss!!!!

On the advice of my fantastic acupuncturist, I have recently changed to a low carb, low sugar and high protein diet. So far, so good. Thanks to the nutrition class I was able to attend for 6 weeks, I have the knowledge to soak and sprout beans, prepare my food the proper way, and I have been able to start taking in more meat. I have had virtually no headaches and my hair is shedding less each time I shower (I think).

I have also started with a 25 minute yoga workout every day and then I put my bike on the stationary tool and ride in the house while watching The Biggest Loser. It's hard, but I ride for the entire hour without stopping.

I feel amazing already. I love muscle memory! After one workout, I noticed my leg muscles were already better than they have been. I also noticed less knee pain, which is amazing.

I love the encouragement on this board and I am so proud of everyone for keeping with it (even if you fall off the wagon for a day or two!)

TTC our first. Married to, and madly in love with, my beautiful wife. Living with our fur baby and enjoying 19 nieces and nephews.

  • Congratulations to everyone making extra effort to be healthy.  It is not easy and takes a lot of work.  I wish I could say I was eating better, but I swear all I want to eat is sugar these days.  I just picked up egg nog ice cream last night.  Let's add fat on top of fat and sugar and freeze it, that is egg nog ice cream and I love it!!

I am making an effort to eat small meals earlier in the day so I am not so hungry come the evening time.  My goal for the next week is going to be drink more water.  I have fallen off the water band wagon lately and I have noticed more headaches and not feeling great.

  • I haven't been posting on this check-in either b/c I have had nothing good to say. HA! I have gained a lot of weight in the last 10 months (since our TTC journey started) and it has been a combo of poor choices/habits creeping back in, fertility meds (I feel like I was hopped up on hormones for 6+ months straight with no reprieve...wait, that's b/c I was...), exercise restrictions during IVF, and then lack of energy in the first tri, plus the fact that simple carbs were about all that would quiet my nausea. So yea, I am pretty bummed b/c I am nowhere near where I wanted to be at this stage in pregnancy, but I can't beat myself up over it. I mean I can, and I do sometimes, but really, there is nothing I can do about it. I can't reasonably shed the weight while pregnant, so I just need to focus on managing how much more I gain and be prepared to totally kick my own butt as soon as I deliver to try to get back to where I want to be in a reasonable amount of time.

I too struggle with talking about my weight and my efforts to control it (especially when those efforts fail), and I cried at my last OB appointment when the nurse weighed me. I talked to my OB about it, and she was very reassuring. She said she would like me to gain about 25 lbs total for this pregnancy, and I think that I am OK with that (I say that now, but I am sure I will gain more... ugh...).

I think part of my problem is that I was SOOO restrictive with diet in order to lose weight in the first place and then maintain my weight loss, that the second I started eating like a somewhat normal human, my body was shocked and started gaining weight. I just need to find a way to process and accept the fact that I can't change it now and beating myself up about it is not going to help anyone.

I am not sure if I will regularly post on this thread or not. Honestly, talking about this stuff makes me what to break out in hives and start sobbing (I know, I need to work on that). Anyway, there's my health and wellness (or lack thereof) situation.

Oh, and as an aside, I am so unhappy and self-conscious about my current appearance that I have stopped PIPing new pictures, b/c I just am embarrassed to share how I look. Which makes me sad b/c I am starting to bump a little bit, and I was so excited to share that, and now I don't want to because I feel like I look like a cow.

    Ok, end rant.

  • @KH826, I totally get it.  I am not where I want to be, weight-wise, and I know it is only going to go up and I am going to feel grosser.  My sister posted a picture of me on FB recently that horrified me.  I am not going to be one of those women who looks pretty much normal except for a bump -- I am going to be big all over, and right now it just feels like I'm going to be fat again.  I am officially not allowed to run, I am not motivated to work out in any other way, and I have a really hard time restraining myself around the holidays.  I brought up weight gain to my OB yesterday and she also said I should aim to gain no more than 25 lbs, and that 20 would be fine too if I could manage it.  She also said it would be ideal if I didn't gain any weight at all until 20w.  HA!  Unlikely.

I know you have talked about being a perfectionist and I wouldn't be surprised if you have the same all-or-nothing problem I have with weight loss -- when I'm on, I'm ON, and I lose weight and am motivated and see results -- but when I'm off, I'm OFF and I don't do well at just eating normally.  Right now I am just trying to find some sort of happy medium groove where I eat sensibly when hungry, don't eat when not hungry, exercise moderately, and indulge a little in holiday treats without going hog wild.  But I struggle a lot with that middle ground, and I definitely haven't found it yet.

The good thing is that you know what you need to do to lose weight, so when that healthy beautiful baby is born, you can get right back into your routine and do what you need to do.  Just think about how many calories you'll burn breast-feeding!  :)  This is a hard stage because you probably don't look "pregnant" yet but you weigh more.  But try to remember that you are surely your own worst critic, and the rest of the world probably still thinks you are adorable!
