Babies on the Brain

Should I have done an intro?

I started posting a few weeks back.

My names Alyssa obviously. H and I have been married 4 months now and we are working on some financial goals. We will be TTC no later than December but I will be going off BC in September to give my body some regulating time before we really start trying. So I guess we will be in "pull & pray" mode starting in September.

I love baby names and H loves beer. I get him a little drunk and throw baby names at him constantly. Right now we are decided on Oscar Justin and Hanna Kimberly.

We live and work at a private boarding school and love every minute of it. We are only 22(me) and 24(DH) but we are planning on being here permanently and already have an apartment that would hold at least 2 children.

Oh and we have cats. Thee shelter cats who I love to death but the two kittens have been driving me BATTY today. I can't wait for them to grow up. Haha.

Haha indeed! Also when my DS was conceived I had been off birth control for a month and we were going with the pull and pray method. Boom. Still got pregnant! Apparently BC didn't hinder my cycle.
DH thinks pull and pray will work okay and he wants me off BC a few months early so we can hopefully avoid messy cycles. He is aware and okay knowing it might not prevent anything.
I hope pull and pray wont work. In a good way haha.

  • Welcome. There are also comdoms you know. Or you can chart your cycles to time sex to avoid pregnancy.

:-O Planned Parenthood does low cost bc. Even if you paid full retail, it's a hell of a lot cheaper than a pregnancy and L&D without insurance.

Haha. Well we have used condoms when we first got together but early this summer but I ended up with a serious infection in my kidneys because I didn't feel the effects of my UTI we assume came from condom use. My doctor suggested not using them if I was with the same partner and confident he was not with anyone else. We both were re tested and decided no more condoms.

I plan to start charting in Sept. as well so we are on a good path when we start trying in Dec. Nothing is ever 100% though.

Hi! BC sucks without ins. My nuva ring cost me $120 one month and I almost cried. Thankfully my insurance paid me back. I complain about my $20 copay sometimes but I am so thankful for insurance!

I know, I used a family planning place for my last 3 months. But I don't want to go back there just for one month of it. If I did get pregnant this month, it wouldn't be the end of the world. I'm sure we will just abstain for a week or so.

So you can't afford BC w/o your insurance...but you CAN afford a pregnancy without insurance? My med-free, midwife assisted, easy labor and delivery (read: cheapest possible way to deliver short of a homebirth) was $15k, and that's after a higher risk pregnancy that I had no control over - prenatal care alone would have been $40k w/o insurance.

    Condoms cut off DH's circulation.
Of course they do! It's like the rumors I heard in high school! FYI: They do make larger condoms.

Why are the newbs dumber each time?

This!! I just went through a pregnancy and birth with no insurance and we owe about 30k between doctors and the 2 hospital stays I had. Not a joke.

errr I wish you had stopped at the intro OP.

The notion of BC with no insurance being too expensive as a reason not to be on it is probably the dumbest justifying reason.  BABIES ARE FUCKING EXPENSIVE.  shitloads more expensive than BC.

I read pull and pray as "haha - we'd be happy to get pregnant now but will be actively trying in Sept" - NOT "this is such a smart form of BC" Just....no

I didn't say I was going off BC because it was so expensive. I said I was going off it to regulate out my cycles so we don't have to worry when we are actively trying. Us doing pull and pray is exactly how you read into it. We would be ready for a baby in September if it happened that way. I'm not an idiot. I also have fantastic insurance. Not sure why you think I said that.

ETA: After re reading this thread I think you may be confusing me with a PP.

Haha. My friend in college was falling for that line. When she told me at first I thought she was joking and I laughed. It made her really angry.

My insurance will begin January 1st. I have an appt. for my yearly on January 10th. Then I will get an Rx for bc again. We are just currently in between insurances right now because DH just got out of the Navy.

Like I said, we will probably just abstain. And my insurance kicks in January 1st. And we were planning on TTC in September. So even if I did get pregnant this month, it wouldn't be the end of the world.

    Meant to quote: oops...

I remember when I use to worry about the cost of my BC ($25 a month).  Then when I had my
DS and started paying all of those expenses, especially $500+ a month on just daycare, I could care less about that $25! Even if you can get BC for $120 w/o insurance, I'd do it!  WAY cheaper than a baby....100% for sure!
PPD/PPA Mom...it has been super hard, but I'm making it! Slow steps...
Mom to Carter (6), and Calianne (1).
Proud VBAC, natural birth, breastfeeding, cloth diapering momma!

Thats how I felt that one month I had to pay the $120 it wouldn't be as bad now but when I was in high school $120 was a week and a half of work. It sucked.
