Constipated LO.

This is my best guess. He's grunting and farting and crying but his diaper is empty. He can barely sleep cause he hurts so bad and I don't know what to do to help him! Any advice?????

Re: Constipated LO.

  • ah gas.  That is our biggest problem with our LO.  he can't settle down to sleep and cries a lot during the day.  We just started using Biogaia.  It's by Gerber.  You use 5 drops a day, in the bottle or off a spoon.  I think it's helping a bit, but it's only been a few days.  Also, with every diaper change, I bicycle his legs to help move things along as best I can.  I also burp him a lot, even if it's not after a feeding.   The gas has to leave him somewhere.  I'd rather it leave him as a burp than have him struggle to toot it out.

  • My LO has been having gas problems for the past 1 1/2 weeks and this is what I do to calm or try to ease it for him a bit:

-Burp (very often throughout the day + different positions)
    -Bicycle legs
    -Rub/Massage belly
    -Warm wrap/pillow/etc. on belly (heat)
-Gripe Water (seems to help a little)
    -Patience, it'll pass soon <:)

  • I have been using Little Remedies gas relief drops before each feeding and burping a TON and it really seems to be helping!! Good luck our little one would scream for hours after each feeding and he is fairly calm again and sleeping better!!
  • Ditto the probiotics and gripe water. Also a warm bath or at least a warm washcloth on his tummy might help.

  • Thanks everybody! Seems like burping may be the issue. I can pat his back for an hour and he just doesn't burp! But has gas like crazy and it seems like he'll be really fussy and upset then finally he'll get a little relief and be good for an hour or so. Then it starts all over. I've been using the gas drops. Where would I find gripe water in the grocery store? I'll have DH pick some up on his way home from work as its 2 degrees here today so LO isn't going out! And unless I can tell him exactly where it is he'll never find it!!! Lol.
  • Like AmyG said, likely gas rather than constipation.

If you're EBF'ing, babies use BM more completely than formula.  That translates into less waste... or, less poop.  It's normal for babe to go a few days without a bowel movement.

He can get gripe water from any natural foods store like NATURAL GROCERS. Just have him ask them where the gripe water is.

  • We have gripe water in our regular grocery stores. It's just in the baby section with the diapers, wipes and other meds. If not there, maybe the pharmacy section? He could ask someone to help.

Even if an employee asked him if he needed help finding something he'd say no. Men.. I have to go out tomorrow for my 3 week incision check up so I'll stop and get some then. Thanks everybody for your help. The bicycling his legs is doing wonders! I prop him on my legs facing me and sing and talk to him while doing that and he starts farting almost instantly.
  • I found gripe water next to the infant gas drops in the pharmacy section with other tummy related items, at target.
