High-Risk Pregnancy

SUA diagnosis

Today I found out that my baby only has one artery in the umbilical cord instead of two. I'm so worried and I don't get any follow up until January 2nd. The doctor acted like this is normal and happens all the time. He actually told me NOT to do an internet search about it. Yeah... right.

Re: SUA diagnosis

  • @goodgalpal I'm sorry no one responded yet.

My baby has a single umbilical artery too.  I was told that most of the time this isn't a big deal and most babies are born completely healthy.  They said I would be monitored for proper growth throughout the rest of my pregnancy, but that is the only difference I'm aware of so far.  I am going to ask my midwife tomorrow about whether she can still be my primary care provider for this pregnancy…it is my understanding that a SUA is technically high risk but not necessarily a problem for midwife delivery.

My biggest questions right now are:
-does this affect how I should behave this pregnancy with regards to diet, exercise, etc
-does this affect where I can/should deliver and who delivers my baby?
