Spitting Up

DD rarely spit up but DS is spitting up all the time.  It has me wondering if he's spitting up or vomiting, but from what I read, I guess it's probably just spit up. I checked his temp and it's fine.  I burp him regularly, but it doesn't seem to help much.  I just feel like he's so uncomfortable..always grunting, making faces, spitting up..he's only 2 weeks old and I just don't like this helpless stage!

Re: Spitting Up

  • Our LO is on his second medication for reflux and we are going to meet with a GI specialist on the 19th because he is not gaining weight like he should be.  He spits up/vomits after every feed, screams while eating and is just miserable...

I would check with the pediatrician just in case it is reflux.

  • Thanks ladies.  I have been weighing him periodically to make sure he's gaining weight and he's gaining weight really good actually, so I am hoping it's nothing to worry about, but I will mention it next time I see my pedi.

  • Infants' sphincters at the top of their stomachs are not strong enough to contain their stomach contents.  So, spit up is totally and completely 100% normal.
@wedding06 said it right... if they're so uncomfortable they can't eat and they can't sleep, it's time for some help.
@crwjcc1, I'm glad you guys are seeing the GI.  Hopefully, you guys have some diagnostics done and you get specific answers and more importantly, RELIEF!! :)

  • @jaysonandkristin Thank you! We are going on the 19th for what I hope will be the diagnostics, but for now the new meds seem to be helping. We have a weight check appt next week to see if he is gaining on this new med.
