Cloth Diapering

New to CD with some questions

I've been building up a CD stash (especially thanks to black friday deals) but have a few questions that I can't find good answers for.

I bought some Grovia hybrid shells. Are the Grovia Biosoaker inserts worth the price? Or can I use prefolds or fitteds underneath them? Same with the Flips covers?

I've gotten most of my pocket diapers from second sales so they didn't come with any inserts, so I know I need to purchase extras. I have a few microfiber inserts, but from my understanding, they are bulkier than other types. What type of inserts does everyone recommend for pocket diapers?

  • You can use prefolds under GroVia and flip shells. Also, if you wanted to you can stuff your pockets with prefolds too.

  • The Grovia Biosoakers are actually disposable inserts that fit into the shells.  They do make both a stay dry and an organic cotton inserts that are reusable.  I don't have any stay dry inserts, so can't comment on those.  The organic cotton ones are nice, but IMO I think a tri-folded (or snappied) prefold or a pad-folded flat work just as well, and they are much cheaper! The cotton inserts aren't any trimmer than a prefold/flat is.  I don't think a bulky fitted would fit under the Grovia shells very well.  They are pretty trim.

I actually kind of hate my stay dry Flip inserts.  The cotton ones are really nice, but for the price I think I prefer my AppleCheeks bamboo inserts.  Most fitteds would probably fit pretty well under a Flip.  (I really like Blueberry Coveralls over fitteds.)

Love, love, love my AppleCheeks 2-ply bamboo inserts in stuff pockets.  I'm also on a kick of using flats pad-folded as inserts.

  • Thanks! I figured you could, but didn't know if it impacted fit or caused leaking problems. I may load up on a number of prefolds then, if I can also used them in the pockets as well as the covers.

  • Prefolds inside of my pockets is my new favorite way of stuffing. They're a little bulky but IMO no bulkier than double stuffing. I don't mind MF but I don't love it and DH really doesn't like it. If your handy with a sewing machine you can always make some of your own inserts. I made some organic cotton terry inserts for my newborn diapers and they're super absorbent...they take for freaking ever to dry though. I made 3 prefolds with bamboo fleece and they're really absorbant but got super pilly really fast. I just ordered some Eco Hemp organic cotton fleece and am going to mess around with that soon.
