Re: help...constipation TMI

  • Constipation has been one of my main complaints this pregnancy!   Make sure your diet also is getting enough fiber - but don't over do it either - especially since you have taken meds too.  You'll eventually feel better - it sucks though!

  • I take 2 pericolace every single night. If I need more help then add miralax in the morning. Still nothing, put the miralax in a cup of coffee and don't leave the house lol. If that still doesn't work, I can't imagine it not though, then take 2-4TBLS of milk of mag followed by something warm to drink if nothing happens repeat in an hour. This is all straight from my ob. And says there is no specific recipe that its diff for every person but mixing the meds and playing with dosages is completely safe to find the right combo for you.

  • I have been taking a probiotic the whole time, so I am not as constipated as I thought I would be, but my friend had severe constipation early on and her doctor recommended miralax. Maybe you can try something like that?

  • I have been pretty regular this entire pregnancy, even into 3rd tri now and I owe it to my diet.  Every morning I begin with 8 oz of "green goodness" juice (I buy the bolthouse farms brand), then a cup of coffee-with caffeine-if you are not drinking caffeine then this is pointless for pooping help ;) Then I have a bowl of berries each morning (strawberry, raspberry, blueberry, blackberry) and eventually I have a banana.  I try to eat a leafy green salad everyday. I also sip on water all day long and get about 70 oz each day. I have not needed to use any meds yet, but I have doubled my fiber intake everyday.  It has definitely slowed down in there, but I have not gotten constipated. I hope you get some relief soon!
  • i second the miralax in coffee.  may take 2-3 days of it but it will work and usually will be painless.  good luck!

  • I had constipation from the day before my BFP and it's been relentless! I tried Colace which was only helping a little, and I even ended up with a bleeding hemorrhoid (sorry for the TMI, but it was awful.) I was desperate and finally tried prune juice in morning and night and it's made everything better for me (in addition to the Colace too, of course.) I hope you find some relief. It's awful! GL!

  • @liz4paws I've been bleeding as well. My OB recommended milk of magnesia, and it gives me the urge to go but it doesn't help make it less painful.( which makes me not go) My local pharmacist recommended glycerin suppositories...its like a vaseline capsul just to have extra lubrication to make it easier...I'm so desperate that I might use it "/ I'm only 10 weeks idk how I'm guna make it since I hear it gets worse in the 3rd tri.

  • In addition to what the other ladies have suggested, you may want to check how much iron is in your prenatal. Iron can make constipation worse, so you might want to talk to your doc about switching to one with less (or no) iron.

    Hope you feel better soon!
