Sudden, odd behavior

I feel like I remember someone posting about this a month or so ago but can't find the thread.
L has suddenly started slamming her legs during her sleep at night. She'll lift both legs and slam then down over and over! She also wiggles around while doing so and I find her on the other side of the PnP when I wake to feed her. The leg slamming is becoming more and more frequent, but she appears to be asleep when she does it! It's def. keeping DH and I up and night.
Is this just her way of getting comfortable or self-soothing??
It's so strange! I wish I could put a weighted blanket on her legs....I feel like she's not getting "good" sleep.....

Re: Sudden, odd behavior

  • Savannah has been doing this for a while, usually just before she starts to wake up. It doesn't seem to bother her though.

  • Ds had also been doing this for quite a while.. He spins himself in circles while he does it

  • It's not odd behavior at all. Very normal. LO started doing this and then started rolling over. She was using her legs as momentum to roll over.

  • I noticed B doing this for awhile too! She's super squirmy in her sleep, which is why she's been in her crib since 8 weeks! I can't get any sleep with her in the same room!

  • So it's more common than I thought! Has anyone's babies outgrown this yet? L also spins her little body then has her head up against the side of the PnP which wakes her up. We may have to transition to the crib too...I feel like I was up al night because she was so loud!
  • My LO does all sorts of maneuvers while she sleeps, and I find her in a completely different place than where I originally put her down. She doesn't seem to wake herself up with the gymnastics, though, so I let her be. She has been in her crib since she was 8 weeks old (never swaddled since she hated it), and seems to really enjoy the space!

  • My LO has done this forever already. It's really funny when he's doing it and then lets one rip. Oh and I woke up to him facing the opposite direction of the way I placed him in the crib.

  • C gets her pnp shaking, its like an earth quake! I just figure she's trying to get comfortable.

  • when he was in his pnp, he would shake his head back and forth and shake the pnp too. Now that he's in the crib, I've found his head right near the top of the crib from him kicking himself up. He was almost sideways from kicking one leg and turning in a circle. He still shakes his head side to side to soothe himself to sleep.

DH said he tried shaking his head like that and he said it works...

  • DD has started a weird new behavior. When she is in the Arm's Reach, she has started scratching at the mesh side. It's really strange. She won't stop doing it once she's in there and she won't go to sleep.

We're bed sharing most of the time now because of this.

The night or two after my lo rolled over he was up almost every hour because he was moving all around. The next night he was back to normal. My advice is just be patient. ..not what you wanted to hear though I'm sure. On those kind of nights I just bring lo into bed and he usually sleeps better too.

  • My LO does that when she's trying to keep herself from falling asleep. She's the biggest sleep fighter I've ever seen!
