TTC after 35

Intro (child and loss mentioned)

(cross posted from TTTC)

Not sure where to begin....I'm 38. I started seeing an RE on CD 5 of this current cycle. They couldn't do much but some initial bloodwork. One of the tests was AMH which came back at 0.16. Very devastated because MH and I have been trying for #2 for 15 months. I kept seeing my OB thinking the next month was going to be the one but decided it was beyond time to seek different help.

I haven't talked to the RE since that initial visit so I'm not sure where I stand for fertility treatment. I have yet to do any CD 3 bloodwork (FSH) because they couldn't get me in to do that bloodwork at the start of this cycle. Waiting for my next cycle to start up around Thursday.

I have an amazing little boy that is 16 months. I feel very fortunate for him since we didn't conceive him until I was 36. If you are checking the math, we started trying for #2 right after the 6 week PP check. You would think just having a child would make getting pregnant again easier. However, that's not the case. My son took 11 cycles to conceive and that was only after a clomid cycle and an HSG.

I did have a loss in May at 9 weeks along. I conceived that baby after another clomid cycle. I would have been due this month on December 30. This has been a really rough month so far.

Not sure if the RE will be able to do anything as it sounds like I am DOR or perimenopausal. We are OOP for any assisted help so IVF will likely be out due to cost. When I saw the RE, she wanted to do clomid (some I can conceive on it), another HSG, trigger shot and an IUI but that was before the initial bloodwork. They have me on 100 mg of DHEA as well as my prenatal vitamin.

Just not sure what to do. I'm hurting from the loss and it doesn't help that I'm surrounded by BFPs from family, FB friends and a group I was a part of until recently.

Re: Intro (child and loss mentioned)

  • Just wanted to welcome you. We have never done medicated cycles so I'm no help to you there but I have trouble conceiving (8 years between my 2 children) and I have had a loss.
Many of the wonderful women here are in your same shoes so just know that you can lean on us for whatever you may need.
I hope you can get your blood work done after this cycle starts. Maybe your RE will have a good plan of action for you.

  • I'm so sorry for your loss.  I hope that you are able to relax until you get more answers from your RE.  Try not to worry until you get a complete picture and plan from your RE.  Good luck!

  • I think I remember you from last time. My AMH last clocked in at 0.16 as well (beginning of this year). AMH won't really tell you the whole picture and you may not truly be DOR. See what your FSH/e2 is as well as AFC. If you are regularly getting a period and have no other symptoms, you're not really peri menopausal at this point.
