Re: Long overdue Check In 12/8

  • Hi All~ I've wanted to get more involved in this board after lurking for a long time.  Figured this would be a good place to start!

    1) What process are you/have you been involved with in the fostering/adopting world?
We are foster/adopt.  Got called for our first/current placement 10 days after getting our license.  Newborn Baby girl that we picked up from the hospital.

    2) Who are you in the triad?  foster parent

    3) How are things going lately? Any YAYs or UGHs happening? Let's hear them!  Yays- this is our first baby and parenting has been going a lot easier than I expected.  She's a great sleeper so I'm sure that helps.  UGHs- our court case is SLOW.  We are six months in an still have no idea where our case is going.  Disposition has been postponed 3 times.  I wasn't prepared for the emotional toll the waiting while parenting takes on you.

    4) What's the most recent accomplishment for you/your family? Baby just turned 6 months so we started food this weekend.  She was really excited the first time to try and since then has been kinda meh about the whole thing.

    5) QOTW... What is your favorite winter activity!?
Drinking hot chocolate? Probably skiing, I live about 45 minutes away from Lake Tahoe so we have some great snow here.

  • 1) What process are you/have you been involved with in the fostering/adopting world?
Domestic Infant Adoption. DS placed 7/29/13.

    2) Who are you in the triad? Adoptive mom.

    3) How are things going lately? Any YAYs or UGHs happening? Let's hear them!

YAY: Baby is awesomely amazing and cute.
UGH: We are getting no where with finalization. Our lawyer needs one piece of paper from our agency to finalize and he doesn't know why he doesn't have it. Our agency keeps telling us that we fall within the normal realm of the finalization process- Baby is 19 weeks old- I know most baby's at this agency finalize by 7 months- in my area that means you need to be on the court docket by about 4.5-5 months. So I'm seriously pissed off.

    4) What's the most recent accomplishment for you/your family?
We started eating cereals this week!

    5) QOTW... What is your favorite winter activity!?
Staying inside ant watching snow fall.

    3. Things are finally getting moving. We finished our profile and got the books printed and are on our agency's website. We are in the middle of our homestudy.

  • 1. What process are you/have you been involved with in the fostering/adopting world?
International adoption - China.  We are in the process of completing our dossier.

    2) Who are you in the triad?
    Prospective adoptive parent

    3) How are things going lately? Any YAYs or UGHs happening? Let's hear them!
Yay - We're almost finished our dossier.
Ugh - We're waiting on I-800A approval.  It's frustrating that it takes so long.  We had our biometrics taken over a month ago.

    4) What's the most recent accomplishment for you/your family?
The kids start a new daycare tomorrow, which means a new routine.  Ultimately I know they'll love it, but transitions are always a crazy time in life, so I'm just trying to roll with it.

    5) QOTW... What is your favorite winter activity!?
I love cross country skiing.  I haven't skied much at all since I've had kids, but have promised myself that I'm going to make an effort to get out on the trails more often this year.

    3) just waiting still! We had a potential situation that fizzled pretty quickly, but no word since then. Yay: we ended up with a three day weekend due to Icemageddon, and it's been nice to get a few things done around the house and to relax with DH. Ugh: this Christmas season is going to be a little maudlin, yet another Christmas without a babe in my arms and the first since FIL's passing.
    4) I love our town's annual tree lighting festival and wassail competition, but it got iced out this weekend. :-/

    3) Things are going smoothly, we are almost done with our home study paperwork.  We just have to fill out the 7 page questionnaire/autobiography and my DH has an appt for a physical on the 3rd.

Ughs - I emailed our social worker about scheduled the education class because we are going to be busy the day she was thinking about and I haven't heard back yet.  I don't want to push, but that was like 2 weeks ago.  And all 5 of our references said they mailed their paperwork back but they only 3 out of 5.   The office manager just said that sometimes the post office down there is "really slow". It's been nearly 3 weeks. UGH indeed!

    4) We went yesterday to check out cribs and bedding and DH and I both agreed on the one I wanted so that's exciting!

    5) Snuggling up under blankets and/or next to fire with DH with hot chocolate while watching Christmas Vacation.  :)

    3) UGH. Sent in application about 3 weeks ago. Just got notified that it will be another 2 weeks until they contact us about what our next steps are/start the home study. Our friends that are adopting with the same agency (but are past the home study part) said it only took 2 weeks total for them to get info about starting the home study... just being anxious to get started.  :P

    4) Stocking up on cloth diapers (probably buying way too many.. so addictive tho!)

    5) I live in the south, so we have no snow here.. I guess hanging out by the firepit with friends on nights that aren't too cold or snuggling by the fireplace on nights that are.

    3) How are things going lately? Any YAYs or UGHs happening? Let's hear them!
YAY - we are in the waiting pool!!!! Our profiles went 'live' this past week and our home study was approved on the Friday after Thanksgiving!
    4) What's the most recent accomplishment for you/your family?
I waited until the Saturday after Thanksgiving, but our house is all decoarted for the Christmas holiday! I feel like it has been a huge accomplishment for us as I will typically leave it until the middle of December!

    5) QOTW... What is your favorite winter activity!?
Living in the great state of Minnesota, snow is an all the time occurrence so I love to go out and play in the snow with my nieces and nephews! I also love being up at the cabin enjoying a cold night out on the deck in the hot tub! This is my favorite time of year!

  • 1)What process are you/have you been involved with in the fostering/adopting world?

Never thought our EM would go past her due date.  UGH.  Work has been great, but I keep not wanting to go to the office, however with no baby, no reason not to go to work.
Another UGH - adoption in AR is suppose to be easy and quick but based on issues with BF, we will need to go through the ICPC process and return to AR to finalize after 45 days.

    4) What's the most recent accomplishment for you/your family?
Our SW updated our HS today because a lot has changed since the last update in June and we didn't want any issues with ICPC.

    5) QOTW... What is your favorite winter activity!?
I love skiing when it is not to cold but that won't be happening this year.  Sitting by the fireplace is also nice.

Just found out this week we are pregnant - the one time in the past 5 years when I haven't wanted to be pregnant! But my head's coming around to it; I know it'll be a YAY in the end. It does mean a crazy, crazy Fall for us, since we'll probably travel to bring home H in November.

    4) What's the most recent accomplishment for you/your family?

DH and I deciding to continue as planned to adopt H, even though we don't know what it will look like for our family this time next year. I couldn't be happy about being PG if it meant I was losing H too, and we worked through it together. Go team!

    5) QOTW... What is your favorite winter activity!?

I'm from South Texas and generally dislike being cold. If it's below 55, I'm cranky. So I've been cranky for a few days! But I do enjoy driving around looking at Christmas lights, and I luuuurv Christmas baking.

Huge YAY since it took 3 months. 5) QOTW... What is your favorite winter activity!? I love sitting outside by a fire pit, unfortunately I live in Florida and yesterday it was in the 80s so non of that!

    3) 4) recently spent the whole day with Adia's (my LO) PAP's at their house and it was incredibly reassuring to get a glimpse of the life she'll have and see her future room. PAMom finally ordered the crib and is registering for her shower. I'm due in 5 weeks but measuring 2 weeks ahead with minimal weight gain, so I'm relieved on her behalf to have things ready for Adia's arrival.
Ugh- my personal/ family life has been a complete nightmare the last couple of weeks. Sometimes I feel overwhelmed b/c this had been by far the most difficult year of my life, and next year I place my baby for adoption. Trying to trust God's plan in this and the strength he'll give me to pull through, but Satan keeps reminding me how weak I am and how I deserve it for getting myself in this situation.
    4) Lights before Christmas at the zoo, complete with soap snow (b/c real snow usually melts within a foot of exiting the snow machine around here)!
Birthmom to A, 1/8- the most beautiful thing I've ever seen.

Ugh- The state wanted more info and DH and I keep forgetting to send in the form. I get to work each day so pissed that we forgot again. This is the last thing in our hands and we are completely dropping the ball.
I was supposed to do an egg donation in January but they found a cyst and want to monitor it so now it probably will be pushed back if it happens at all.

Yay- I am pretty much done with the class I was teaching so I am down to one job until next summer.

    4) What's the most recent accomplishment for you/your family?
I got a title change and small raise at work.

    5) QOTW... What is your favorite winter activity!?
Huddling under blankets on the couch, as far from the cold as possible. When I win the lottery this will be changed to spending the winters somewhere tropical.

    3) How are things going lately? Any YAYs or UGHs happening? Let's hear them!
YAY - I met with my boss last week to discuss plans for coming back to work after my maternity leave is over.  I really want to do 80% full-time and my boss was really cool about it.  Now we're just waiting for the owners of the company to clear it and I think my chances are good.  Fingers crossed!
UGH - We still don't have a court date for TPR.  Our SW says that the BM didn't want to associate the holidays with going to court, so she wants to delay it until sometime in January.  I understand the BM's feelings, but it does put a damper on us feeling secure in starting our family here... I am not planning on sending out Christmas cards this year since I feel bummed about this.
    4) What's the most recent accomplishment for you/your family?
DS is really starting to smile and coo.  It's just awesome getting to spend my days with him and is really rewarding seeing him grow up so far.
    5) QOTW... What is your favorite winter activity!?
Anything indoors!  Seriously, it's freezing in Wisconsin during the winter.  If it's sunny and slightly warm, then I don't mind going out cross country skiing or for a walk in our neighborhood.

    Hello all~

I'm a newbie to the board. My DH and I are just starting the adoption process. I have chronic health problems and am choosing adoption as the best route to complete our family. We are hoping for a newborn this first time around; We want the baby experience since we are first time parents.

1)What process are you/have you been involved with in the fostering/adopting world? DH and I are gathering the necessary HS documents and trying to figure out which agency to go with.

    2) Who are you in the triad? Hopeful adoptive mom

    3) How are things going lately? Any YAYs or UGHs happening? Let's hear them! Today, specifically, I'm feeling overwhelmed by trying to figure out which agency to go with. *sigh*

    4) What's the most recent accomplishment for you/your family? Not adoption related... But this past Thanksgiving, I successfully made a turkey that was neither undercooked nor burnt. Does that count?

    5) QOTW... What is your favorite winter activity!? Since we live in Florida, our favorite activity is going to the Manatee Viewing Center in Apollo Beach. When the temps drop, the manatees like to hang out there in the warm water.
