Middle name for Pearl

I love the name Pearl for a girl and DH does too. DH just decided h wants to honor his mom with a middle name - Fernanda. I wanted Diana after my grandmother.

Our son is Maximus Samuel Jose. Samuel was my grandfather and Jose is DH's dad. So we could follow the same strategy for a girl, but....

I just don't love the double middle name for a girl. Not to mention our last name is pronounced Al-May da. So Pearl Diana Fernanda Al-May-da is too much of a mouthful! We could shorten Fernanda to Fern which helps matters but I still don't swoon about it! Thoughts? Do we have to pick just one? How do we decide? I was really close to my grandmother so I really want to use her name. Her nickname was Dolly which she went by her whole life.

I should also add that my great grandmother was Perla so Pearl is sort of after that side of the family already, although it's more of a coincidence since I just really love the name.

Suggestions welcome! Should we bail on a family middle name altogether - if so what middle name goes with Pearl? TIA!

Re: Middle name for Pearl

  • I love Pearl too! If it was me, I would aim for Pearl Diana. If your DH insists, adding Fernanda to the end would be ok. I don't like Pearl Fernanda though...
If you scrap it and go with another mn, Pearl Elizabeth, Pearl Alexandra, Pearl Alyssa, Pearl Colette, Pearl Noelle
  • My mom suggested Fiona as a compromise between Fernanda and Diana. Thoughts? Anyone?

  • This is why I don't like using family names. It becomes well FN is after your side so MN must be after my side, etc.

I dislike double middle names. I say if you really want family name put both in a hat and draw one out. Or ditch both and start fresh.

All of this. If you really want to use the family name, though, I like PP suggestion of Fiona.

  • Thanks! I don't know why I don't mind the double middle names for my son and it's throwing me off this time. I think just because it's a lot of 3-syllables names - it's just too much name!

  • I think you need a MN with at least 2 syllables and possibly one without it ending in -a (Maria) just because it could get a little rhymey with your last name. From those above, Alexandra, Diana and Fiona. Others:

    Pearl Christine
    Pearl Justine
    Pearl Isabelle
  • Pearl Diana is the prettiest IMO. But I don't think Pearl Diana Fern is bad.

    I agree with this.
