Babies: 3 - 6 Months

rh incompatibility

my daughter was born with rh incompatibility, severe anemia, and the cord wrapped around her neck. She is now almost 6 month old. Every day i think about those things and if it'll affect her later on.I can"t help but worry about it. Has anyone else had experience with these things?

Re: rh incompatibility

  • I haven't had an experience like that, but have you spoken to your pedi? They would be able to share more experiences with you.

  • No I haven't talked to them about it. They were clueless about it all the first few appts I had with them when she was first born. I don't know if the hospital never told them anything when the said they would.
  • Rh incompatability (mom is Rh - and child is Rh +) has the worst effects on the subsequent children. The first child will have anemia which is easily corrected. Maybe some liver or spleen issues which generally work itself out. Most pedis do an anemia check around 1 year of age as a baseline.

As far as the cord, many babies are born with a nuchal cord. If the baby is hitting milestones and interacting appropriately, then there shouldn't be a problem. Severe disabilities as a result of hypoxemia are seen soon after birth.

    Good luck.
  • Thanks. She's just so different than my other two children which is partly why I worry so much. I had no issues with them at all.
  • I had all the same issues as an infant and I am fine. It's normal to worry but really the RH thing is no big deal now they just give you a shot while pregnant , anemia can be corrected with diet and supplements. As for the cord being around her neck I never had any issues because of that if it makes you feel any better.
