Transition to co-sleeper/Intro

Hi this is the first time I'm posting, but I have been reading posts on here for a while. I have been bed sharing with my 3 mo old son, Theoden, for a few weeks, but would like to transition him to the arms reach co sleeper we bought. However he seems to know every time I move him over even though I'm still right next to him. Anyone have any tips for the move?

Re: Transition to co-sleeper/Intro

  • Lay on top of a blanket as you nurse him to sleep that you can set in the cosleeper just before you put him in...it'll be warm and smell like you. I think sometimes the temp change of the cold cosleeper can wake babies.

Also try to scoot him into it as much as you can rather than "lowering" him. That lowering can create a falling sensation that wakes even the deepest sleepers.

    Good luck! :)

  • Welcome! We used a bassinet adjoining my side of the bed to start the night (I wasn't ready for bed at 7pm). I would nurse her in our bed on a pad. I would lay with her 20min after she was asleep and then transfer. The pad was key because it is waterproof and it smelled like me!

  • When you move him slowly let him go.  Remember, the cosleeper is only for babies up to five months old, so you only have a couple of months left.
