Step stool recommendations?

I wanted to get DS a step stool for bday or Christmas, but it's the one thing I can't decide which one to get. The cheaper plastic ones with rubber grips on top and bottom seem to be safest, but get reviews that they won't be high enough for DS to really reach anything, while the more expensive two step wooden ones say they are for ages 3+ and look like he could slip on them in his socks but would give him more height. I'm getting it so he can wash hands, brush teeth, get on the potty, etc. Anyone have one that they like and can recommend?

Re: Step stool recommendations?

  • We just purchased a new one a few weeks ago from of all places, Walmart...  I believe it's a mainstays brand but it holds up to 300lbs. and completely folds up.  The thing is FANTASTIC considering it folds completely up so you don't have to trip over it when they aren't in the bathroom...  It's also not super flimsy and holds its place when it is set up unlike some that slip and slide all over the place (we've got two of these hence why I bought this latest one)...

  • We have the plastic baby bjorn one for DS. He loves that he can move it around himself. It's tall enough that he can use it for the toilet, sink, and light switch. I've debated getting a nicer, 2-step wooden one for the kitchen or something.

  • No suggestion as we don't have one yet, but perhaps if you find a wooden one you like that will give the good height, you can add your own non-stick stickers on the top where his feet go and maybe something on the feet?  Just a thought. We'll be looking for one soon ourselves for the sink.

  • My FIL just made a learning tower for DS.  It wound up costing him only $7.50!  He had most of the wood already but still!  They go for $200 online!  DS loves it!! And it adjusts! FIL said it took him maybe two days to build.

Here's where I got the plans!

  • Thanks all! I think I'll start with the cheap plastic one for the bathroom and see if I can convince DH to build the learning tower! He did a train table for Christmas and really enjoyed it!

  • We have a cheap plastic step stool for the bathroom and a learning tower in the kitchen. He likes the stool, but loves his tower!
