Thoughts on the PISA?

So very long story short we have a cousin who is giving us just the pump part of the medela PISA because my pump sucks. We looked over the whole thing and realized that if you pull off the face plate it is a closed circuit pump. We are thinking of sanitizing the face plate, and ordering new parts. If you are ordering all brand new parts would you reuse the pump part?

My understanding is that the PISA is intended for use by a single individual. I would check with Medela first. Personally, I wouldn't reuse.

if you know and trust the person you are getting the pump from it's nbd.  to be clear, no milk actually reaches the pump.  Replace the tubing, and all other parts and it's like new.  my LC said to get our own b/c "if any milk overflowed back into the pump there might be pathogens harbored in the pump structure."  knowing the physics and biology of that i think it's pretty clearly a CYA statement.  

so logically, do you trust that your cousin is disease free? if so, then proceed.  if not, then invest in your own.

oh, and i love the pisa.  it isnt as quiet as the symphony i used in the hospital, but otherwise it's great.  small tip, if you are pumping only on one side, block the other tubing to increase suction.
