Tell me about the SHG

So I met with my IVF nurse yesterday to go over some details of my cycle and figure out how much meds to order (I was lucky to receive some donated meds).  We talked about genetic testing of our embryos and decided on "hindsight CGH" which basically means they will biopsy my embryos on day 3 and we will transfer as normal and we can decided after the cycle if we want to do the testing.  This gives us the option to go ahead with the testing if we have extra frozen embryos or if the cycle fails, we can find out if it was because the embryos were chromosomally abnormal.

Then she through me a curve ball.  She mentioned that at the clinic they usually do another uterine assesment at 6 months if the patient has multiple failed cycles, but it was up to my RE (he is an attending physician at the clinic.  He has his own practice, but uses the clinic for his IVF cycles).  I was pretty certain that he was going to say not necessary since my first cycle wasn't really a failed cycle since we never made it to transfer.  I left a message for him yesterday and I heard back from the nurse today.  He said that it probably wasn't necessary, but thought that maybe we would do a SHG anyway since it is cheaper than the hysteroscopy.

So it looks like I am going for the trifecta of uterine imagine.  I had the HSG a little over a year ago when we started IF testing and had an in office hysteroscopy early last July before my first IVF cycle, now I will be scheduling a SHG as soon as my period comes next week and I start BCP. 

How does your SHG experience compare to your HSG or hysteroscopy experience?  My HSG was pretty bad, but my hysteroscopy was much better.  What should I expect with the SHG?

It wasn't bad at all! I took two motrin, and it lasted approximately 2 minutes!

I didn't feel anything. I've heard it can be painful, and I was worried, but it was easy.

My HSG was slightly more crampy, but not too bad either.

The shg hurt me more because of the saline and getting out debris from last mc. But I didn't take 2 Tyneol which I should have and did for the HSG.. So if your HSG wasn't too bad you'll be okay just take 2 Tyneol

I imagine it will be a lot like my hysteroscopy, but maybe a little better.  They used saline for my hysteroscopy and that part wasn't too bad, it was when he was moving the scope around that was a little uncomfortable.  Since there is no scope for a SHG, I don't have to worry about that part.

Sounds like a good plan, Twinkie. My SHG wasn't bad at all. I didn't take anything for the procedure and had a little mild to moderate cramping for a few hours after. Good luck!!

Thanks @RunCC37, I hope you are feeling better after your ER.  I am happy with our plan and hopefully the 3rd time is a charm.
