C-sections

postpartum check

Hi, can anyone tell me what a postpartum check is like after C/S? What are they looking for? What would potentially be wrong with our lady parts after surgical birth? I had a resident tell me that internal exams are not necessary after C/S. I'd like to know if this check up can be skipped or postponed. Its a busy time of year and my doc makes me wait forever and my day gets shot. I had a transvaginal U/S a few weeks ago. Wouldn't that adequately identify problems with uterus/cervix/etc ?? thank you!

Re: postpartum check

  • You def need to go. They check the incision and do a full women visit Pap smear and all.

  • I didn't have a pap but still had an internal exam. Don't skip it.
  • I agree with all the above posters! Don't skip it. Having a c section is major surgery.
  • Don't skip it! This is basically like your annual appointment and the official "closure" of your pregnancy/post partum period. You want to go get the all clear.

All I got was an incision check. Total waste of time. Call and ask what's involved. If its just that, you can look yourself or have your partner do it.
