That's how I'm leaning too, but I was curious if it would seem odd to not use the scan. Spelling when our LN is so obviously scan.
I am guessing, that unless you live in an area with a large Scandinavian contingency, no one will notice. Pretty name, BTW.
I don't think too many would notice, and it actually started as a joke! I said that we couldn't possibly use Sonja bc it would just be too cruel, but I actually really like it spelled either way.
My sister-in-law is Sonja....my DH emphasizes the JA part to tease her (cause sometimes he acts like he's 5). I think spelling it Sonia would be less complicated.

Yeah, our LN is long and confusing enough as it is, so I'm leaning towards simplicity for the FN.
I love Sonja. Personally, I prefer the j spelling, especially since you have a Scandinavian last name. But, the "i" spelling is nice too, especially if you want something simpler with a complicated last name.
